Gandhi said that sometimes, the only way people can see God is in a loaf of bread.

I don't know that hunger strikes work too well with drive-by shootings, landmines, IEDs, car-bombs...many people do nameless, faceless killing with no direct connection to their victims. A hunger strike would only work if you could do it to shame somebody into listening (which would imply somebody cared on some level.)

Bombs, even guns, are a way to avoid direct contact with those you "hate" (who could be innocent people you actually don't hate at all.) I say, if you're going to kill someone, it should have to be up-close and personal. Take responsibility for your killing. Get in your victim's face.

Then, see how much you feel like killing. It would really cut down on violence if you couldn't get any distance from the "enemy."

I think people feel that you need to be aggressive to send a message, which certainly isn't the case. Our need for food is inextricably tied to the fact that our bodies are stuck in a material existence and needs sustenance. To give up something so precious to our body's survival for the sake of something else sends probably a more powerful message than any bomb could.

I once saw Arun Ghandi (his grandson) speak at my college. I had the priviledge of interviewing him afterards for our campus news paper.....

I was a lot younger and more open to new ideas then.

He spoke about non-violent resistance. He spoke about how in Denmark, the Danish people stood in front of Tanks to save their Jews. It worked....Hitler backed down. He spoke of the courage it would take to lay down your life for peace. To sit in front of a tank...knowing you were doomed. He said risking your life for war was easier...you had a chance to fight back. The most noble thing, he said, was risking your life for peace.

Needless to say, I was inspired. Now...14 years later....I'm a bit older, a bit balder, a lot fatter, a lot more jaded.

It just isn't in human nature to do that. The ones that can become saints.

The only way to react to groups like the Taliban is violence. They are a cancer that simply must be removed from the society's organs.

If we lay down in front of our enemies we WILL get rolled over. Maybe they will eventually stop...like the nazis did...and although that story was inspiring....I think if it had become a regular strategy, instead of the exception, they would have rolled over them, and continued rolling until there were none left.

I think in a lot of situations you HAVE to fight.

As much as I wish you were right.....I just don't think you are.

We aren't these ultra civilized beings...we are still primates, with many primate instincts....including violence and territoriality.

Oh yes you are right?? Didnt you see those million of people marching against the war (would be killings of innocent civilians with bombs) and then the world saw that millions of innocents killed in afghan and iraq war. Super powers dont care..! or do they???
No one care dear... WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE KILLED? or TO KILL? (if you could not kill instead of being killed then what would you do?? Suicide bomb is the best option)

Do you mean like Israel and Palestine?

I hope you don't mean the US and radical Islam, dying of hunger would be exactly what they would want.

I dont' understand how women who kill thier children can eat in prison, how can they continue to live and feed their faces?
They should starve themselves to death.

Because people loved Gandhi. People wouldn't give a crap if you went on strike and starved to death.
