For example, why are some compelled to walk down the dark road where the most holy expression of one's soul is jettisoned and substituted with the empty mirage of a choice of beverage?

"Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear."

Identify the quote and discuss its validity or truth please.

Did anyone notice that there are very young children in clips from that documentary.. and they don't talk like kids, they sound like ADULTS???

So.... I wonder if they are not really understanding anything they're being taught, but just getting caught up in the excitement and repeated what adults tell them?

I feel that if you are going to teach anything to kids, you should use language that kids understand, so they can think about it.

What do you think?

The above is from Matthew 27:25. The Jews chant this when Pilate comes back and says he cleans his hands of Jesus' death - that this man is innocent.

1. Why would the Jews actually chant this?

2. Why would Pilate care what the Jews thought? The Pilate from historical documents that we have was a cruel man who slaughtered the Jews right and left whenever they refused to follow Roman law. Pilate claimed he was innocent. The Jews were a minority - and not a well liked one at that.

3. Why wouldn't the Jews just stone Jesus to death if they truly thought that he was so guilty that they would take the blame not only on themselves but on their children? There are numerous mentions of stonings throughout the NT. Including the one Jesus stopped. Obviously the Jews were still able to do this - they still had their own courts. They had already found Jesus guilty - why drag him to the Romans?

Has anyone ever thought that the beleif that "God is in control of everything, and has a plan for us all" has been used as an excuse for people not to try to change the world? The beleif that everything happens as a part of God's great plan leaves you with the beleif that we are not in control, and whatever happens does so as a part of God's purpose for that individual. I know that in my past experience of being a very hardcore Christian, I would look at global warming as just part of God's plan, and wouldn't worry about it because one day Jesus will come back and make the Earth new anyway, therefore it was not a matter that concerned me. The same as for the people suffering in the world, the children dying from abuse, the people being raped, the homeless, I saw it as part of God's plan for those people, & knew that he needed them to go through these things for some higher purpose. Does anyone feel that the main concern of Christians is merely to bring in more Christians?

now according to the bible
you have to eat jesus's flesh
drink jesus's blood
be a little child
but then,be a new born baby
hate everyone
yet love everyone? (i know alittle contradictory there)
then you must sell everything you have (car, stereo, couch, ect)
so you must be a blood sucking flesh eating baby child who hates everyone and loves everyone to get into heaven
good luck with that

I used to believe that this was a religious issue....I don't think it is anymore....I'm coming to the conclusion that it's all Willie Horton and Flag Burning.

How much of the opposition to gay marriage is based on sincere religious belief, and how much is based on a bread and circus act put on for "values" voters who they want to distract from what they've done to the economy and middle class?

I was on earlier and someone pointed me in the direction of a Christian site that was full of misconceptions about Wicca. I was less intregued by the content than I was by the use of these words.

"The horned god is a phallic (phallic refers to a man's poo-poo) deity of fertility".

In England poo poo means faeces and phallic means penis.

I understand that fanny in America means bottom and that in England it means vagina. (causing some humour in England)

Is this a similar difference in language or has this woman made a very funny mistake.

Also why so much fear over the term penis - are some people that afraid of anatomy?

Tell me, why is it that in America -- it's alright for Buddhists, and Athiests, and Jews, and Muslims, and even Wiccans to bash Christianity, but as soon as a Christian opens there mouth to speak they are immediately accused of doing something wrong.

Why is it that Athiests, or non-believers attack Christmas... a holiday that the World Celebrates as a Whole practically. One of the biggest, if not the biggest, Holidays of the year. Santa Clause for Pete's Sake!? Why not attack Easter? The biggest Christian Holiday.. huh? That's the day when the Lord rose again. That's the day that this 'fake' man, this 'imposter' is believed to have come back from hell and walked once again on the earth?

Greed Day. That's what people need. A National Greed Day. That way, if you don't celebrate Christmas, or Easter.. you can celebrate your own holiday. After all, that's what it's all about isn't it?

I am to the point of not wanting to Yahoo ? anymore...Some not all Christians are closed minded & critical, their way is the only way. Not Christian like at all.
Some of the Atheist are hatefull & negative towards anyone who believes in God & prayer.
There is a lack of respect for others idea's & maybe I am just as much to blame...I thought Yahoo was fun, but I am disapointed with the negativity.
