The Harry Potter books lead children to believe that fantastical things are real and, thus, that God could be real! We must ban these books as they are a terrible influence on our children!!

What do you think?

I have a stepdaughter who is a JW - we have only in the last eight months started seeing her as her mother kept her away from her father. We have an agreement through the courts - part of this was to have her for five hours on christmas day to be with her family. she was not forced to celebrate christmas itself, in fact without the decorations you would hardly know it was christmas - however she did receive presents. We explained to her that these were not christmas presents, only love presents from the family who don't get to see her that often. She accepted this and enjoyed her time immensly. Later that day we received a phone call from her stepfather abusing us for giving her presents etc etc. It is my understanding from a previous conversation with an elder that presents are not strictly forbidden, only discouraged - is this correct?

Is that when people have a traumatic experience and become so afraid of living, dying, or losing their loved ones that they forsake all of the knowledge science has accumulated and revert to an ancient, superstitious religion because it promises "everything will be okay"? Does that term desribe this type of intellectual regression?

Aren't we really back in the schoolyard, and there are a few kids who figured out that Santa is made up, trying to convince the others? Of course, the God delusion has thousands of years of bloody consequences...but isn't the debate the same?

I know this sounds rather far fetched, but my house is 150 year old, my cat keeps freaking out and making terrible wailing noises and running away from something, several times a day, and I once experienced a shadow and someone brushing past me, but there was nobody else in the house. I'm a bit spooked, more concerned about the cat being upset than me. Any (genuine) advice appreciated. I am a bit of a sceptic when it comes to the paranormal but I am convinced there is some sort of presence in the house. I live near Glasgow in Scotland.

Or a negative one? This question is not singling out any ONE religion, but applies to ALL of them that ever have existed or still exist in our own time.

Since the bible was written by man who CLAIM to be writing down the words of god, should christians follow everything ordered in the bible. I mean, there are so many contradictory and repulsive statements in the bible, and it's all written down ( It's not misinterpritation, it is stated very clearly.) Why not just go with what you feel is right?

This is my source of where I found repulsive statements...

Because they seem to get confused when we start talking about God's behavior in the Bible...like God is real. Should we drop the God is bad approach? Did anyone convert from Christianity because they disapproved of God?

If you didnt have to bend over for Allah five times a day, squeezed together with other men and their rear ends in your face;

If you werent separated from the opposite sex and forced to be with men most of your life;

If you had any doctrines of "love" or tolerance, any at all;

If intolerance, self-righteousness, and ignorance werent the certain product of the religion;

If most armed conflict in the world werent Islamic;

If the greatest genocides in human history (Ex: Arab Islamic invasions of India) werent Islamic;

Would you then more serious consider the religion of peace?

Background Church of Christ. Recently, my new family began attending and even more recently placed membership at a church. I know that the church will help us study with the children (girl-9, boy-12), but I would personally like to know how this is done. What do they study? (more specifically than why we do what we do) Where do they get the information? (besides the Bible, are there study guides somewhere that will take you through what needs to be covered)

They have expressed interest in being baptized and I don't want to miss this opportunity to study. I need a refresher myself. Plus my husband is from a Catholic background...eventhough he has not expressed an interest in changing his faith (although supporting the family in this new church), I would like to include him in a no pressure study about the church.

Please only serious answers...i would like to get started on this study ASAP with the kids and my husband. Thanks.

real. So what's so good about that? What's so good about Jesus curing a couple of leppers who were diseased by God's will? God allows Satan to do what Satan wants, it's God's fault. Why don't Christians put this together?

It seems to me that all belief in God is a matter of personal faith, yet non believers argue from the pOV of the enlightened intellect(which of course no one on this planet is)

Which is worse?

God has been doing a work in me about letting go of the past and putting the past in the past and even though I have given over everything to the Lord there is this one instance that is a contention with me and bothers me.

I was in a very long courtship with my husband with total absitance and there were people giving us a hard time about getting married even though they had done things that were not excactly right in thier dealings.

There are times I still say I waited 3 years and 9 months for a lisence to practice and I earned the right to be married but this has gotten old and stale and people get tired of hearing these things.

I know of people that had easy breezy courthsips with little or no problems and I have been jealous of that.

My question is how to I lay this to rest and let go and move on I have a good marraige but the enemy is a lair and I get flashbacks of that tough time. How can I just let it go or use this instance to minister to others?
