Dawkins claims the world would be better without religion - no 9/11, no7/7, no crusades, no witch-hunts etc. Has he forgotton about Stalin's Soviet Union (that brand of communism originated in dialectical materialism), a self-proclaimed 'scientific' and atheistic ideology? Has he forgotton about Hitler's Germany where Jews were seen as a viral infection requiring drastic solutions (i.e. total destruction) and Hitler played fast and loose with religion to manipulate the German people? Has he forgotton about Mao Tse-tung's China, pro-atheist and anti-religion? Would he, or you, for that matter, care to live under those less than begnign dictators in their atheistic and Godless countries? Let's hear the arguments for and against Pluralism v Totalitarianism. Let's ask whether we should respect the right to adopt freely chosen beliefs (within the law) without insult or persecution. Let's ask what this world would REALLY be like without religion - a better place?

Im genuinely intrigued now, to know how a question(innocuous, compared with some others Ive read) gets removed so fast.(When the Muslims get slated for not allowing freedom of speech,it is odd).
Are the Q and As scanned by a 'Yahoo Answers' panel,or adjudicator,or is a Q removed automatically if someone asks for it to be removed?Perhaps I should stick to the banal and uncontroversial(like the 'musak' they play in shops these days)?

This is not intended to be a political dicussion, so please, spare me the Bush remarks. What do you suspect the bggest, most likely secrets that top world governments are keeping. And example of the type of answer I'm looking for: It was said that President Jimmy Carter once revealed that he was told by the CIA when he became pres, that man was created by superior alien beings and the US goverment knows this. So what do you think are the greatest secrets kept by perhaps the government, military, etc?

Islamic history tells that when prophet Muahmemd conquered Mecca, he gave a list of 10 names for people whom should be killed wherever they were found, even if they were inside the Ka'aba (the most holy place for Msulims).

Among those people who should be KILLED was a woman with the name of Sara. The reason prophet Muhammed killed her was because she went to him once asking for some charity because she was broke, and prophet Muhammed gave her money and food on hope she might convert to Islam, but she took the money and food and returned back to her town without converting to Islam.

That story raises many questions:
1- Is refusing to convert to Islam should be punished by DEATH?
2- Was being a Muslim a condition to receive charity?
3- Why did prophet Muhammed violate the many Quranic verses that gave immune for people who enter the Ka'aba (the most holy place for Muslims)?

There is a prophetic statement that tells us that prophet Muhammed knew about the intention of his son-in-law (Ali) to marry another woman in addition to Muhammed's daughter (Fatma). When he knew that, prophet Muhammed got angry and he said he would not agree on that.

Why did not prophet Muhammed agree on that although he himself was married to NINE women at the time?

Some people say that the reason was that the new bride that Ali was going to marry was the daughter of Muhammed's enemy (Abu Gahl), but I am still confused because many of prophet Muhammed's wives were daughters of his enemies as well (Abu Sofyan as well as most Jewish tribes).

Was there a real reason for prophet Muhammed to prohibit something while he himself was doing the same thing?

Earlier I asked if atheist thought the bible contained any practicle wisdom, and most who answered said yes, apart from the religious references, which I can understand; but one answerer said that civilized societies pre-date mono religion and although true, my point of contention is all of those societies and until today seemed to have an innate tendenciy toward war. Even with the Greeks, an attribute of the pederastic relationship was to train the young boy to be a warrior. So even though they were living well for their time, they still weren't satisfied and had an innate propensity to be power hungry, arrogant, ungrateful, insatiable appitites for decadence, etc., .

Which for me demonstrates the need for enlightenment or redemption, meaning that the submission to a higher power is the cure for these uncontrolable desires.

Also, if the early Christians had not been evolving from this type of mentality they may not have resorted to Holy War to make their point. Any thoughts?
