Because when Adam and Eve sinned God cursed the earth and that included animals. When God first created the animals ( and I believe that includes dinosaurs and other extinct creatures as well) there was no indication ( in the bible) that any of the animals were wild. God put Adam in charge over all of the creatures of the land and the air( I have to go back to the bible and see for sure if it was sea animals, too) and gave him the job of naming every animal. It is the belief that Adam and the animals lived in harmony with one another, and then Eve came along and she also lived in harmony with them, until they disobeyed God. After they disobeyed God, God cursed the earth and that is why some of the animals turned wild and mean. Women have pain during child birth. And growing vegetables to eat is not an easy process. You have to painstakingly go about it. It is also the belief that the snake did not start out slithering on the ground, after satan used the snake to decieve Eve, God cursed it and said that it would be close to the ground forever. And it has been! Also, don't you think that it is a good idea that animals do die? I mean, God intentions were for them ( and us, of course) to be fruitful and multiply. Well, if no animals ever died, we would be very overpopulated!
P.S. Animals and humans did not start out as meat eaters, God provided food for them, but they did not kill and eat meat in the Garden of Eden. No one ate meat until after the fall. Read the book of Genesis for a better understanding.

DID ANIMALS COME BEFORE MAN
Animals & INSECTS are food for each other and created thousands of years before man.
Man is not food. Man is to care for the domestic animals, and some of them are food for man.
Eccl.3:19-21;
Man was made to have life, but Adam and Satan caused the disconnect from God.
God has plans to save the ofsprings of Adam John 8:44; that Satan has caused the death of from Eden. hEB.9:27; 1cOR.15:22-28,51-53;

Rom 8:19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
OR to put it in more modern English, since Adam had been given authority of the plants, animals, etc of the earth to "guard and keep" (see Genesis 1:28), when he fell into sin, everything that was under his control fell with in. It was not because the animals had sinned, but because the were subject the Adam, they are affected by his sin (see verse 20).
The good news is that they will also be redeemed when the final liberation of the children of God comes. They were included in the redemption that Christ won on the cross.

You need to first look again at what the scriptures say (since you are referring to scriptural cites) -
In the story of the garden of Eden, there is no mention that animals were considered the same as the new human creation. The cycle of life was already established prior to the arrival of man, and man (according to scripture) was a unique creation, and was given the provision and charge to care for life and the rest of Gods creation.
The story simply defines man's decline from the unique "life" that God originally gave him, and man's decision to become equal or greater (in hope) to God, is what seperated man from God. So man became inclusive to the same burdens and strife in the physical world that the rest of life already had, except without the protections and grace provided in God's holy garden of Eden.
Perhaps, even greater than the weak attempt at trying to expose falicies, is the overly ignorant assumption that everything religious is wrong in a vacuum, promoted by the notion that every antithesis to religion is intellectual logic and reason ... even without evidence, and with an even higher and inestimable belief - rather "faith".
There is an obvious advantage to humans over the rest of life through our physical stature and our ability through intelligence. Even if the bible reference to the garden is a difficult one to accept, there cannot be denied that we are not equal to the rest of life, and the rest of life has not evolved in step with us. If evolution as it is prescribed in it's own version of it's own religious text is final fact, then one has to ask why didn't the rest of the animal kingdom, seeking communication and higher comforts, evolve in the same manner as mankind?
Which still leaves the equivalent question of whether God exists or not, is when did the lizard contemplate flight, and how did it plan it's strategy over millions of year and multitudes of failures for a succesful flight and new design? Especially if it is not capable of high intellect, let alone the fact that every mistake results in failure to certain death, thereby eliminating all chances of success?
If an animal doesn't know it can change or realizes a need to change, why should it change? Especially if that change cannot increase it's chance for survival when it needs to survive during what is typically less than a couple of years?
Evolution as a stand-alone anwer, is a notion that is even more ridiculous than that of biblical faith, yet is considered "logical", mostly because it simply argues with "religion". Ironic.
Science is about questions - not answers that eliminate possibility. The theory of evolution (that stands in opposition to religion, as many propose) "eliminates" possibilities that may be answered in religion and its history, yet still doesn't have the answers. That isn't scientific. That's propoganda.

It is a source of amazement that some folks can easily accept that their "God" acts like the kind of primary-school teacher who punishes the whole class for something one kid did.
In this case, you'll notice that "God" not only punishes all the kids in the class, in perpetuity, but also the kids' pets, for what TWO students did.
This is the "just God" that they defend.
But what is actually so is that the biblical creation story that involves this is simply an attempt to explain death. Other cultures have creation stories that explain death in different ways - and not all of them lay the blame for death at the feet of "sinning" humans.

Animals do not have the capacity to live longer....reasons as to why they die vary, same reasons as we do, sickness, old age...and some are also meant to be eaten or preyed upon by other animals.

Animals were not created to live eternally like humans, we were created in God's image and God has put eternity into our hearts, that is why we do not want to die but live forever.
