I am surprised so many people say so: yes, then.
Why, because in reality, you don't come them across as often...
It is easier to respect someone opinion when you are sitting safely beyond a PC...
Even so, I admit: no!
I have a lot of difficulty to respect people who express even calmly the supremacy of their races, views and even actions...
So, depending about the subjects I would say that if people are not trying to convince me, I will listen...
On the matter of religion, I think it is really weird to see this as a challenge...
And even on education, as I worked sometimes in psychiatry with kids, I know some punishments are absolutely destructive...

I respect all the people that oppose my view even if their view hurts, though I put respect and patience as the key teacher for learning I sometimes feel like shouting at the top of my lungs but always remember my principle in learning and get quiet.

Depends on how they oppose my views. If they really challenge my view with a valid point I had not considered, then yes, I respect them more then, but not everyone who opposes my views has such valid points.

My best friend and I have very different political (& other) views. We don't get into these huge debates but she knows where I stand and vice versa. It makes our friendship more interesting and fun. But it does open my eyes to how other people think. If she and I saw eye to eye on everything - I think that would be boring. I like that we are different. The important thing is that we respect eachother either way.

Personally, I have much more respect for people who challenge my view than with those who blindly go along with what I said.

I only respect someone if they have valid arguments, If they never cross reference what they are talking about. If they just keep spouting the same irrational arguments then I have no respect for them. I only respect people who know the In's and outs of both sides of the argument.

Within certain parameters, you can, and should, respect people, regardless of what you think of their views. For example, I think the theology of the Abrahamic traditions is incoherent, but I don't think people are "stupid" for believing in it. They are simply, and objectively, mistaken. This is a condition caused by many factors and why assume malice when ignorance will suffice?

So to paraphrase my Christian friends, love the person who is wrong, but demolish his ideology.

First of all, we are not to be in fellowship with someone that is still walking in darkness, What does light have to do with darkness, & 2nd. It does not bother me one bit if soeone dis-agrees with me, I only ask if you disagree & you want a conversation with me about the bible, give me equal time to explain my belief, I have a brother that is very religious, & I will never take away his testimony, But he has a living wife & he still thinks God call him into the ministry, that is completely against the word of God. & for 6 months we were talking about the bible over the internet, & guess what, he stop responding to me. I never told my brother that I doubted his testimony, But God will not call a woman nor someone that has a living wife & remarried into the ministry, That does not exclude them from being saved.

Of course not!
I do not speak unless I know what I am talking about,
and anyone who disagrees with me can hardly make
such an absolutely unimpeachable statement.
The world is observably teeming with idiots who feel
entitled to shoot their mouths off. This has no bearing on the merit of their utterances, and believe me, I let them know that forthrightly if they have the unmitigated gall to speak out against
my pronouncements.

I rather respect people who recognize their own weak intellects and honor the presence of a more developed mentality in their midst, by listening and learning when I tell them my views.
