I'm not talking about nuns or the like, who play a subservient role to the priests. I mean the leaders of clergy. Those who actually give the sermons or lectures (Or whatever they happen to be called in that religion).

I know that Pagans and Wiccans have their Priestess'.
Any others?

According to the bible, god condemns me for being an atheist. Regardless of any moral virtue or uprightness of character I might have, God believes that I should burn in a lake of fire for an eternity. Isn't God an atheist just like me? I think god is.

God doesn't pray to anyone at all. God can only swear by itself because god can swear by no one greater (Hebrews 6:13). God doesn't worship anything else, except it self. God affirms very plainly in its word that "There is no God besides me" (Isaiah 44:6), thus, leaving no room for the possibility that a higher being other than god can exist. God hasn't confessed to Jesus, repented of all of it sins, or been baptized in Jesus' name. So it seems to me that god is not only an atheist, but a galactic dictator, a super-communist, etc. So why am I going to burn in hell for being an atheist, when god itself is an atheist?

Last time I checked the Christians claimed between 6,000 and 10,000 year old earth, but that is clearly disproven by tree rings. Did god intelligent designed the trees to appear older than they should be?

Please check this for Christian Scientists claiming the earth is 6,000 years old: http://www.answersingenesis.org/home/area/re1/chapter8.asp

Please use this for tree reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLFKM886l4Q

Here is a useful site about common misconceptions on Evolution:

And THIS site goes much, much further. It covers ALL bases. "Index to Creationist Claims". I highly recommend this.

I am wondering if there are people on this site who are actually willing to listen to something different from their current belief and be open minded about change? Are we all just here wasting time, bashing each other, widening the gap between us and creating more angst so that the possibility of our pride allowing us to listen to each other is totally gone?

Suppose Jesus ascended into heaven. People saw it happen; some were disciples. They went and told people about it. It's a fact.

Now suppose a group of Dadaists or typewriting monkeys collectively made an identical copy of the Gospels, by random guessing.

Would you still be a believer in Jesus' ascension if you were convinced by a book written by a typewriting monkey?

If there is no preference for tracing testimony back to evidence, then beliefs formed in relation to random causes are just as valid as those formed by reasonable ones.

Why not call faith what it is? Belief despite lack of evidence; belief based on improbable or possibly corrupt causes.

So Hannukah celebrates the miracle of the oil for the eternal light lasting eight days rather than one. But here's a question my nephew asked me that stumped me: why is the eternal light important in the first place?

Doubtless it represents the eternal and faith. But precisely when did it become a part of Jewish tradition and why?
