Okay, I'm not completely sure yet, but I think I'm agnostic...I don't strongly believe in God..but it seems like everywhere I go, there's religious ppl. of all religions and it makes me feel isolated like I'm the only person who doesn't commit herself to a faith. It's a scary feeling.

What would happen to religion as a whole if a new group of "people" showed up with totally differing ideas about why we are here, is there a creator etc.?

Genesis 1:
9 And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good

Assume someone once shared your beliefs, but then decided that it was not true, or not right for him/her. What would you say to/about them?

For example:

Exodus 20:13 "Thou shalt not kill."
VS.
I Samuel 15:2,3,7,8 "Thus saith the Lord . . . Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ***. . . . And Saul smote the Amalekites . . . and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword."

OR:

Galatians 2:16 "Knowing that a man is NOT justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ."
VS.
James 2:24 "Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only."

OR:

Numbers 23:19 "God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent."
VS.
Exodus 32:14 "And the Lord repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people."

OR:

John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you."
VS.
Matthew 10:34 "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword."

I am trying to find a christian church or at least a denomination that holds the same beliefs as me.

I personally dont believe that the historical accuracy (or lack there of) of the Bible matters. Reguardless of wether or not, say the Flood, actually happeded i dont think it matters. I believe that what matters is the message of God's providence. I also believe in evolution and the Big Bang, but i believe that God controlled these processes. I believe that Christians need to shut up about people saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" and stop trying to persecute gays and just let them live a happy life the way they want to live it. I believe that God is pro-life meaning that he detests abortion, war, and the death penalty. I also believe that religion, and especially Christianity, need to stay out of government.

Am I alone in these feelings? Are there churches which are based on these principles?

book in the New Testament? Why? Do you have/Will you share your favorite NT scripture? (I would be most interested in your favorite NT scripture after the book of John.) The reason I'm asking about stuff after the 4 Gospels, is because a lot of the scriptures I've seen quoted here refer to one of the four Gospels and there is so much more to the NT than just Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
I really like James 1:5 "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God who giveth liberally and upbraideth not."
I'm looking forward to studying the NT and will try to remember your favorite scriptures when we get there in our Sunday lessons.

I will try to ask my question a little better here since I caused confusion - the tradition I was asking about are things like praying to Mary and the Saints - the Bible is clear not to pray or worhship anything or anyone other then the Lord your God - or why is it believed that Mary was born without sin or that her body was brought to Heaven in the same way Jesus acended into Heaven, there is nothing in the Bible about that.... or absolutely needing a priest to have sins forgiven, why cant one just ask God Himself to forgive sins - and purgatory is the last example I will ask about - doesnt this idea take away from what is clear in the Bible that Jesus died for ALL our sins and He alone wiped us clean, purgatory makes me think that Jesus did not "completely clean us"
Sorry if I offended anyone, just wanted to hear what you had to say about these things

Why or why not?

If you think you should try, but know you can't, does it make you angry? Should the non-believers be put to death? Should they lose rights?

If you welcome differences and don't care what people believe as long as they don't interfere with your system, why do you feel this way?

I just want a real answer. Supposedly there are many things that seem to require the hand of a creator. Let's use the example of the first cell or even life itself. ID supporters say these things had to have had a designer. So, the designer is alive and made up of cells, right? Then he couldn't have "designed" cells or life. These things already existed in the creator. How do ID supporters mentally bypass this contradiction so that they can continue to believe in intelligent design?

Thanks!

Her Holiness Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi's Message
Om Namah Shivaya

To the embodiments of Divine Love and the Supreme Self, Amma offers her salutations.

Revered Aram I and distinguished dignitaries, let me first express my regret for not being able to attend the function due to having committed to other programs long in advance. My heartfelt support will always be there for meetings such as this one and for any initiatives generated from this conference.

Dialogue between the religions and the religious leaders of the Middle East and Asia who have come together here is extremely important. The Middle East has three important Abrahamic religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Asia has given birth to religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Sikhism, Jainism, Taoism, etc. Together these comprise the major religions of the world.
