It's a common expression, nothing more.
If you don't believe in Thor, why do you say "Thursday"?

I do, because I mimic my friends and they say it. I'm a follower, not gonna lie.
It's out of habit. I don't think Oh, God please help me with this headache.
I would call on the toothfairy, but I don't believe in her.

Mainly because it has become a slang expression...but frankly I've never asked him for help with a headache - I pray to the gods Tylenol and Excedrine for that...

Because everyone else says it. It becomes rhetorical. For instance, I say, "How's it going?" to people even when I have no interest in how everything is going with them. Whether I say "How's it going?" or "God help me" I usually don't get a real response either way.

Yes, if you say a "figure of speech" then you must really believe it.
BTW, "f*ck" originated as "Fornicate Under Command of the King" so all you Americans who have ever used that word, you must still be under British rule. Sucks to be you I know, but this little lady has it all figured out!

What are you talking about I don't say that anything like that. Why do people say ouch when they get hit and its painful. Because that's what everyone else says, its called imitation.

I don't say "Oh God please help me" when I have a headache. I would take an excedrin. If it persists I would see a doctor.

Yeah.. And when something goes wrong and people say "****!", you know, they don't really expect people around them to immediately get it on.

Manner of speech. Others say it, and you pick it up.
