Buddha was passing through a village that was inhabited by Brahmans, the Hindu priest class. These men hated Buddha because he rejected the Vedas and the Hindu religion, and said every mean and hurtful thing that they could think of. His disciples became angry, but did not act because the master was listening calmly to all of the things being said to him.
Finally Buddha said to them "If the things that you want to say to me are finished, I would like to go on to the next village where people are waiting for me. But if you are not finished, after a few days I will be returning and I will inform you. Then I will have enough time to listem to all that you have to say"
One of the Brahmans then said "Do you think that we are saying something? We are condemning you! Do you understand or not? Because anybody else would become angry, and you are standing silently..."
