First of all I’m not an atheist I’m just skeptical of all things, but I think I can shed some light on the subject. They have read a lot about religion, most atheists in all likelihood have read more than those of religion. The reason the don’t worship God is the same reason you don’t worship golden statues of bulls and other various "Gods" because there is no proof of these gods existence, of course they will back up their gods legitimacy with thousand year old sacred doctrine but this is not proof. Do you see now?
And yes I like this question and the way you didn’t force it upon me.=)

I read the Bible when I was about ten. I couldn't believe it even then. It just sounded sooooo ridiculous. I recently tried to read the Koran. It is even worse because the way things are worded it is unreadable.

Understand that as far as unbiased, I went into the Bible realizing that it was written by unidentified religious zealots. That means that you have to question everything in it because it was written with a bias.

In the very unlikely event that you were to produce some real evidence that there was a god, you might have a shot. But you must understand that evidence is measurable and reproducible. It isn't just someone's good feelings.

Yes, If I could really believe I would do it. I went to church for 20 years always feeling like an outcast because even though I never said anything and even though no one would suspect......the whole time I was thinking "I don't believe this." I love the idea of having a deep faith in God....having this belief that someday everything will come out in the wash. I would love to believe that judgement day will come and we will understand the meaning of life and see all the wonderful things promised to us in the Bible. So many Christians seem to think that we non-believers just want to be difficult or argumentative. I do not profess my beliefs. My parents and Grandmother would be shocked to know that I believe this. I am probably never going to tell my Children that God and Jesus doesn't exist even though I don't beleive in it. I don't see faith as a choice. You either have it or you don't. People have said....pray for faith, well I am on year 5 and still nothing. But if I wake up one day with the magical ability to ignore all of my knowledge about religion, the bible, christianity, science, human nature, etc and can find faith then absolutely......I will be ever so eager to jump on the bandwagon. I love Christians.......they are some of the best people I know and would love to share in the comradery. Maybe this means that predestination is true and I am just one of those people that God said no thanks to. I used to witness to my college roommates. I was a member of a youth group throughout college. I sang the songs, attended the prayer breakfasts, all of it. I was probably very much like someone you know at church right now. I am still the same in the eyes of many people because they don't know what I think. Ultimately, I had to be honest with myself. It was very liberating to stop lying to myself.....kinda like the day that I told my best friend that I never beleived in Santa. (making no correlation between Santa and Jesus BTW). You can pray for me.....it's always welcome. After many tears, prayers, and struggles I am finally getting to the place where I am ok with my lack of belief. For a long time I couldn't even think of it, now I can write about it to people anonymously on a website but I won't ever be able to tell my Christian Family members. They would be so sad.....not necessary.

If it were a real god, then I could worship it.

Christians have an imaginary god, moreover their god is so small he cannot tolerate the idea of evolution. In the Middle Ages he couldn't even tolerate the idea that the Earth revolves around the Sun.
If there is a God, it is one that is far greater than anything the Christians can contemplate; and one that doesn't have a huge ego problem.

Unless I either pick up a rock and it says "Made by God" (from the movie Red Planet) or everyone on the planet at the same time, sees and hears a message from God, that would be actual proof. But since God is an invention of the human imagination, then the answer is no. Religion is a mind virus.

I don't know about worship. I might be willing to believe if someone came up with some proof, but I haven't seen any yet. But even if there is a god, he's got a lot of explaining to do before I consider 'worship'.

I guess His coming will have to convince them. Whether they like it or not, they WILL worship Him and wish they could have done things differently. It's sad.
Rom 14:11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

Yes, I've explored other religions and, unless your god provides incontrovertable proof of his existance, there's no chance I'll ever change my mind about him. And even then, his behavior would determine whether I'd worship him or not.

I'm just wondering exactly which religions and religious texts you refer to in your statement.
I'm not an atheist, but I do not believe in the Judeo-Christian definition of God....
