That would be about it...maybe the scripture in Luke that says "if anyone would follow me, he must hate his mother and father, his brother and sister, yes, even his very life" As christians there should be NOTHING that has control over us, except God...not our loved ones, and especially not a substance. There is no argument for a cigarette once in a while being sin, but an ADDICTIVE pattern shows that you are relying on something else instead of God. Hope this helps.

ur right. if we are going to say that u shouldnt smoke bc it is dangerous to our health then we should also say that we should not do other harmful things to our bodies (such as not eating right and stuff) but the think about smoking (and drinking) is that smoking is more harmful and there is no upside to it. u get a small lift from it (releving ur stresses) but u eventually (and it doesnt take long) get addicted. it is not everyday that u see someone addicted to a McDonalds cheeseburger. (they may act like it but they arnt really) smoking can also be harmful to the ppl around us causing second hand smoke and things that can be harmful. eating wrong cant give ur neighbor cancer. drinking harms ur body also (like eating bad or smoking) but where the sin for drinking comes in is geting drunk. that is a sin (as it says so in the Bible) and when u are drink u can also end up hurting someone else (physiclly or emosionally) that is why drinking and smoking are worse, they are addiction causing substances and they can end up hurting other ppl. but on the same hand we r to treat our bodies as if their r the temple of God (bc they r) and we should eat right and take care of our teeth/mouth/etc.

I was addicted to tobacco, and felt guilty everytime I couldn't quit. When I recommitted to Jesus Christ, I couldn't quit tobacco. So, I just decided to give up. I sang some scripture, "I'm not under the law of sin and death, I'm under Grace of God. In everything I do in word or deed, I will do in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ."

Well about 3 days later I asked God why I didn't desire tobacco? My husband came home from work and criticized my faith in God. I retaliated my own way and was verbally cut down, where I ran to the bathroom, sat on the toilet seat cover & cried. I doubted God. The nicotine nag suddenly was loud and clear. I wanted tobacco. But I recognized it. So, I repented for doubting God because of the verse that came to mind. Without faith it is impossible to please God, for those who come to Him must believe that He Is, and is a rewarder to those who diligently seek Him. I said to God, OK God You are who you say you are, and you will never leave me or forsake me. Thank you. With that the nicotine nag left.

So, I have never had tobacco since. That was years ago. Smoking is a sin if one thinks it is. If it harms your body, then you will feel guilty for smoking. But once a person is born of God, person is redeemed by the blood of the lamb. When God looks at this child of God, God sees the righteousness of His Son. So it doesn't matter what I do or don't do. But I don't have a problem with tobacco anymore, because I am the righteousness of Christ.

Tobacco is a worldly peace also. Not the peace that comes from God. So, is an idol for some peoples. People may go to the cigarett before coming to God in prayer.

Inhaling the smoke from burning substances is generally unhealthy, no argument there, but a sin? Considering the dangers of secondhand smoke to others, as well as the damage you do to your own lungs and respiratory system, it's sinful to be sure.

In terms of smoking in general, I'd have to say that where you emit the smoke from might indicate a degree of sinfulness.

i really cant see the lord Jesus Christ rolling up to 7-11 for a pack of Marlboro's and a colt 45 ... so i would have to say if you are a bible thumper you really need to believe what your religion tells you ... i myself believe my body is a temple and it should be treated that way... so i drink and smoke as much as possible.

It falls under "uncleanliness" and not to "defile" the body. That's why true Christians should not smoke, do drugs, overdrink, etc. You do not want to harm your body, so living off of fast food would not be wise, just like smoking would be harmful to your health as would tattoos be bad to have.

You don't need a book to confirm smoking is bad, just take a trip to the hospital and see all the winners.

If you want to take that verse out of context, then, yes. It actually refers to being filled with the Holy Spirit.

You cannot safely draw any inferences, on this subject or any other, from scripture -- it has too many errors to be reliable. The concept of sin depends on the concept of god, which is unnecessary. So, my conclusion is that smoking isn't sinful -- it's just stupid.
