This part of Jeremiah 10:3 and all of 10:4.

for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.10:4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

I guess I am wondering if pagans were decorating trees that far back in Bible times. Thanks for your help!

If you have a source you can site or a link you can provide, that would help me greatly!

They are talking about Statues and Idols

10:3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
10:4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
10:5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

two verses later it mentions gold and siver plates "the work of the hands of the workman" with another set of verses describing how they are not like God.

That verse is talking about carving the tree into an idol, since back them they often plated wood with gold or silver to make statues.

Do not consult the KJV bible unless you understand what the words meant in those days, "work of the hands of the workman, with the axe" means the woodwork of a craftsmen, with a sharp tool.

There is no way to tell for sure. One would like to have reliable dates for the quoted passage, as well as the pagan practice, but we don't.

lol. Yes. Because that was taken from pagan traditions that were already established as the church tried to absorb the pagan traditions to make it easier to convert the pagans.

Try again.

The term "christmas" was not coined anywhere near the time of the life of the true prophet Jeremiah.

The passage here is talking of taking wood and CARVING it into the image of a "god".
