I was always under the impression that it was the disciples of Jesus who set out to preach his ways after he made the sacrifice. At which time it wasn't called christianity but a new order of judaism.

I would imagine that it would be the Jews. SInce, Jesus was a Jew, and the gospel was offered to them first and then to the Gentiles. Also, all of the disciples were Jews. Messianic but still Jews.
