A couple days ago i asked a question about how people would feel about having Mitt Romny, a mormon, as president after all the weird things you hear about mormons. A friend of mine brought up a good point...
"Mormons are no weirder than those crazy cannibal cults that symbolically eat their gods flesh and drink his blood every Sunday! now those people are odd!"
So are all people who practice a specific religion just creepingly odd if you look at them close enough?

The only worries I have about political servants' religions are how it affects what they'll do if they're elected and how likely it is to affect how they make decisions, change their minds, etc. I'm Mormon and libertarian, so I don't have any problem with Romney because he's Mormon. I think he's too heavy on the strong government side of things though. So if a Reformed Druid who prays to bushes on Thursday afternoons (thanks MASH) runs against him and has more libertarian views I'll vote for her/him even though I'd think the religious beliefs are weird.

Religion shouldn't even be an issue when it comes to judging one's ability to be president. You may look at the lifestyle and platforms they support as a result of that religion, but the religion itself should be exclusive of politics. On one hand I agree the Mormons have some pretty odd and difficult to take in beliefs, but so do many others, as you point out. I respect an individual who is firm in their beliefs and won't waver for political favor. I guess we'll see how it turns out. Go Romney!

Well the Mormons are still weirder. Sorry but it really isn't a contest. Just try to read the Book of Mormon sometime. I laughed almost as much as reading The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and it was supposed to be funny. It is actually scary that people could believe it.

Yes, but some are odder than others. (Apologies to George Orwell.) Mormon teachings about civil life -- self-reliance and the like -- are quite sound, but to believe in the Book of Mormon is silly. Sillier than ritual cannibalism? Well....

Maybe not, but they have a pile of very good spin doctors that makes what they believe LOOK normal.

They're no worse than Christians.
Here's where I learned about their religion.
