As I was preparing for my own Thanksgiving celebration today I was thinking about the people here in this forum and it dawned on me that since Atheists don't believe in God what would be the purpose of them celebrating Thanksgiving? I'm just wondering do you celebrate Thanksgiving and if you DO who are you thanking?

I didn't realize how many holidays you guys must miss out on because you don't believe in God. Do you celebrate Christmas or Easter?

Please, I'm not trying to make anyone mad I just really want to know.

The Bible says " If we think we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us."
Also that "there is not one good, no, not one"
Do we see our sin and rebellion and separation from God and the need for God's saving?

If you say: "Earthly" That would mean mankind was created to live on the earth.. . simple.
If you say: "Heavenly" or "Both"....very complicated. "Adam lost his heavenly home".... think about that answer for a few minutes. ..
Where did Adam live?
"Adam lost his heavenly home" would mean God had it planned for Adam to die anyway, to go to his future heavenly home. Why? And leave paradise?.. Could a sinless Adam die? Wasn't in fact "death" a Punishment for disobedience? If you say "God knew Adam would disobey". Is that fair? Destined to fail from the start Perverted justice.(Deut.32:4) "The Rock, perfect is his activity, For all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness, with whom there is no injustice"
Why didn't God just create humans in heaven like the other millions of angels? (Ps115:16) "As regards the heavens, to Jehovah the heavens belong, But the earth he has given to the sons of men. (Or, “earthling man.” Heb., ’a‧dham')"
Isn't the answer clear? What say you?

Thanksgiving has been celebrated as a day to give thanks to God for His gracious and sufficient provision. President Abraham Lincoln officially set aside the last Thursday of November, in 1863, “as a day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father.”

I'm thankful that I live in a country that was founded on Christian principles, founded by Christian men. Wether you want to believe it or not, America is a Christian country, based on Christian morals.

Who here is thankful for that?

A little bored with the "logic" argument on spiritual matters.

If your spirit is not awakened, you just wont get it. You cannot think your way into understanding theses spiritual issues in here.

Agree? Disagree?

According to the "projection theory", we developed religion out of a need to defend ourselves against the crushing superior forces of nature. As a child needs a father for protection, so we feel the need to create a protector God.

when we do and say the things in the Bible that people don't like?

Everyone wants Christians to love their neighbor with out sharing the gospel-which is what Jesus did

We are not supposed to judge, but we are supposed to say the homosexuality is okay-when God calls it an abomination

Do people want the good without the not-so-good?

(I don't like everything in the Bible, but I try to do what it tells me to do)

I have seen hundreds of Q & A's on here about religion. Im not attacking believers, but the people who find it necessary to tell the world why they are right and others are wrong- no matter what relaigion it is.
Religion (not spiritualism)was invented as a political tool to control the masses, and now has become the biggest killer in history. Is it not time everybody got off their high horse and took personal responsibilty, instead of 'following' or doing a 'gods work'?

Ask him what did the ancient Jews do when fellow Jews came around to their homes trying to convert them to what clearly was a religious cult started by an itinerant preach who was lawfully crucified for refusing allegiance to the government, and spreading false doctrine among God's People?

Clearly, it was wrong of these early Jewish Christians to be bothering their fellow Jews at their homes, as well as out in public. If people wanted to know anything about this new religion, or even wanted to join the cult, they would have gone to the new churches and asked.

A Rabbi could give good examples of what those who truly were God's People did about religious door knockers.

Why is it people are questioning Jesus's deity because he was like a human? To be honest. The faith's that believe in Christ are unique. He is the only God to have come from heaven to earth. Hindus andothers haven't. He is the only God to feel our pain. he is the only God who died for us and he is the only God who fulfilled prophecies. On a side note

I've noticed that atheist tend to look worn down and tired with wrinkles and scars like they're carrying their own burden. On the other hand those who believe in Christ don't lok like this. This is on a bell curve not plain as day seen there are extreme cases but the majority seem TO ME AT LEAST to turn out like that how come?

First off, I've always been a spiritual person and have always felt that someone somewhere was always with me. But about a year ago I began to research Judaism. As it turned out, many of the Jewish principles of faith truly resonated with me. For instance, beliefs alone have never served to keep me a moral person; it's evident that my thoughts tend to be more pure when I concentrate on "doing" good.
In any event, given these thoughts, and given the fact I'm not biologically Jewish (and given the fact that there seems to be heaps of hatred for Jews in America), what do you recommend I do about my urge to pursue conversion to the faith?
