Not as many as you'd think. Sure, he draws huge crowds wherever he goes. But, it is not because of what he says. He is just a celebrity. However, the Pope's views on abortion, women in the priesthood, and homsexuals in the Church are strongly opposed by Catholics.

first you have to define followers.my brother is a catholic and only goes to church maybe twice a year. and for the most part catholics are divided on issues like abortion,war,homos,birth control and doctrines that have pagan origins. so strictly speaking no one knows.
