You are a little hard on the religious. While I agree with you mostly there are mitigating reasons for belief:
1. Humans are a tribal species with an instinctive need to follow.
2. Ignorant people, which describes humanity up until the last 100 years or so, will believe religious doctrine no matter how ridiculous.
3. Humans invent and believe in gods in a desperate attempt to have some control over Mother Nature.
The reason churches hate secularism so much is it provides answers that work without religion. Religion is dying and they know it.

I have no faith in religions.
Heb.11:1-40 and 12:1,2 are speaking of people that believed in God, that man was lost from Adam and God was going to make plans to save them and they kept and passed along the history of it, and Moses had time to compile it together and they kept up with it to at 606 before Christ the kings ended in Babylon Captivity. Then the history of Jerusalem and the temple being restored and the history ened 443 before Christ and Then the Christ expected is told about in the New Testament Heb.9:14-16;
I do have faith in the bible and as them, John 3:16 a savior is provided Rev.20:1-6,12,13;

I guess some people are weak and need some security and reason of being, instead of having faith in themselves.
It is true, and sad that religion has been the biggest killer in history. I hope opinions like ours will help changing that.
If I may add, I've always thought it's funny how they criticize others when they believe passing judgement is reserved for God and God alone.
And BTW, I'm not saying God doesn't exist. I hope God does exist.

Religion was most likely "invented" to explain events to ancient peoples that were beyond their comprehension. For example, a solar eclipse, there was no explanation for that. Not as a political tool to control the masses. People have been at war for as long as there have been people. Mostly over land, riches, power, not religion. Also the biggest killer in history is disease (plague, cancer, heart etc. etc.). For myself, I am Catholic and could care less what you think or believe, everyone needs to be accountable for their own actions.

Some do and some do not. Life is ying and yang, whether you agree or not.
For example: love and hate, truth and lies, life and death, atheists and theists, specifics and concepts, introverts and extroverts, heads and tails, the known and the unknown, war and peace, science and theology, subjective and objective, thinking and feeling, judging and perceiving, pain and pleasure, reason and faith, matter and energy, mind and body......
Take any of these pairs and ask why people need a, or are a , or ?????? Then ask the other.
Each pair is reality. One part is just an opinion.

You need to BELIEVE in something to control your destiny. If you do not believe in God then you are an atheist and that is your "faith". By taking "person responsibility" you will choose to be "Godly" or not. Religion is NOT the answer to the Worlds woes. Living a Godly life as prescribed in the Bible would eliminate all crimes; however, we both know that is not going to happen. That is why God made us with a mind of our own so we can decide and He also made a place (Heaven or Hell) as the destiny of your choice(s)

Faith is a belief in something you cannot prove is true, in this case. From one viewpoint, I suppose people with religious faith might think they are being wise or something to that effect because they are going 'above and beyond' others to believe in something un-provable. Of course, I know not if this is for true.
Maybe billions of people just need directions to point their life in. If they can have 'faith' as a tool to help them be better people (and these are the people that don't kill others because of 'faith') why should we stop them?
Of course, I'm an atheist, so faith of this kind is weird to me. This is an outsider looking in on this one.

I am what they call a Christian. to me it is not a religion, but a way of life. I have faith because I was made by God [and so were you] to worship Him. that is the greastest purpose for life. It is sublime and noble. I know others will scorn this, but it sadly so because they do not [or choose not] want to know the Living God for who he is. He is not a far-off figure, but a Living Father who desires to have a living and intimate relationship with man, the crown of his creation. [through Jesus Christ His Son]
It is not a pie-in-the-sky thing, it is a way of life - finding your t rue self and your divine purpose for being here in Him.
And, Christians has been commissioned by Jesus to spread the good news of the gospel to all the world. I am sorry if some Christians have offended you or others or if they have been rude to you. But remember, the message of Christianity [that man is a sinner in need of God through Jesus] will always offend people as they do not want to hear or accept the truth. I know, for it offended me for years until I've come to know the true and the living God.
Why don't you get to know God for who He is through Jesus Christ? He is merely a prayer away.

I think that:
Humans need faith, particularly in something that is greater than they are. It's a security issue, when you break it down. We need the knowledge that there's more to life then just making it through it, that there is some type of reason for our own little existance/s. Without that, we would all lose our drive to live, and would waste away.

Will an apple hit the ground if it falls from a tree? Besides I dont think religion causes issues as much as money, greed, false doctrines, and fanatacism. Don't blame the religion; it's the person's fault.
