Is the following THAT upsetting?
"Virgin Birth = commonly-used religious metaphor to represent the enlightenment experience. It was used metaphorically to represent both Jesus' and the Buddha's enlightenment. It has absolutely nothing to do with a literal virgin birth."

Hello, world. It is a cold morning here in the southern, US.
And Thanksgiving is right around the corner, Happy Thanksgiving.
Let's get down to it. The librarian has come wither. I came
in 20 minutes ago, to start my computer. The words did not
print, for whatever reason. So while she walked by, I stopped
her, to get help. Then she came and fixed the "problem". The
keys worked again, and the words came out on the monitor,
in less than half a minute. Hmmmm. She grinned, and said
I wonder why that happened. It has never happened before.
A sly grin at that.... Is she up to something ? Or was this
or moment of truth, that the windows of time allowed us to
get close, for just a quick second ? That is the question.
Is this the ice breaker, for me to make my surprising move
to the sexy librarian ? Psychics, doctors, teachers, preachers,
scientists. May the best answer win.

without the bible there would be no christianity or christians - would there ?

if you remove on the origin of species - someone else would have come up with the theory of evolution - but if the bible did not exist - there would be no christian doctrine to follow

Example: A question about 'why do we fall in love?', and someone answers 'because Jesus made it that way'.
Now, I may not be up to scratch on my theology. However, doesn't the basic tenet of Christianity state that Jesus of Nazareth was the son of God - meaning that God created 'love' and not Jesus.

A quick and dirty example, but you get my meaning.

(And can I at least get some reasonable answers, instead of people behaving like I ran over your puppy...)

I think all organized religions were created by men, and not by God. I don't think there is any one true religion. I think more evil and atrocities have been comitted in the name of religion than anything else.

Are there many of you? I know that many people are not vegetarian because it's God's will that we have 'dominion' over the rest of the world, but if you are a vegetarian, why are you?

Love to all veggies and non-veggies out there,

Now Christians, if you haven't read Buddhism and put pointless posts, I guess the answer to the above question would be "No".

'All who make themselves great will be made humble, but those who make themselves humble will be made great. ' - Luke 14: 7-11

I know a lot of self-righteous Christians (I also know many who are not, but this is a question for those who are.)

How can you justify being self-righteous or putting yourself above others? You may think you are not, but to me any version of 'so-and-so is going to hell' or 'you are being guided by satan' is saying that these people are worse than yourself. As are any feelings of pride at being more moral, ideas of self-importance.

It's one thing when you are a child and brought up to believe in a certain religion. But, as you grow older, don't you think that people should at least think about what they have been taught and decide for themselves what they do or do not believe. Just because you are born into a religion, is that reason enough to stay in that religion for the rest of your lives?

I am studying a certain religion and was told it is forbidden to drink coffee and tea by members of this religion. I was wondering why since it has been proven medically they are helpful in cases of some health problems as well as prevention of others. I also know that in the OLD testament we were forbidden to eat certain meat but that has all been forgotten with the New testament.

DO NOT ANSWER IF YOU DO NOT KNOW ABOUT BUDDHISM

********************************************

The message of love given by Christ doesn't seem to be a new discovery - it has already been taught more profoundly by the Buddha five hundred years before Jesus. It seems the Buddhists even have a word for this unconditional loving-compassion - called 'mettha' in Pali language.

Has anyone tried the loving kindness meditation in Buddhism? What were the results?

Since most of you said SATAN controls the evil in this world, what does God do on Earth? Anything? Can he stop starvation? If not, what is the use of "praying for the end of starvation", "praying for peace", "praying for anything on earth"? (Bible verses, foolish comments, personal questions, and personal attacks on anyone will be deleted) Bible thumpers: please refrain from using bible quotes.
