I don't think your mind is made up and I don't see this an attack on Christianity. You are perfectly entitled to ask this question and I see it as a serious one - well done, and thumbs up from me. Why are Christians soooooo insecure about their faith that they can't have it questionned? I'm agnostic and the reason for that is that I don't dismiss the idea of God entirely, I just think that too much dependency is on the Bible. But the Bible was written by a Man! and Man has a habit if distorting the Truth, sometimes unintentionally. Think of it this way: The Bible was written ina different Age and different Language - neither of which we can fully comprehend. Supposing that the translations of the Bible got some words wrong and totally changed the Meaning of it? Think of the consequences - or look around you. Don't forget that doctrines are created by Man and not God ... and doctrines are Power. The Church has had that for a very long time ... but perhaps not for much longer.

Thanks for asking the question.

Christianity, in fact, existed before the Bible. The Church gave us the Bible - not the other way around. Jesus gave us the Church, so if there was no Jesus, there would be no Church and therefore no Bible.

Your poor understanding of orthodox Christian doctrine and history leads you to make these ridiculous claims. Just because Protestants believe that without the Bible there would be no Church, doesn't mean that's the orthodox or even majority belief.

It is much more! Christianity is a vertical relationship between God the Father and you. The bible is a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They report to us supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies. The writings are devine, rather than human in origin. The bible describes to us events that took place and will take place in due time.

of course it is. Christianity is a life style. The bible is a practical and effective manual to living this life style. Permitt me to say that i realy dislike the theory of evolution. As i learnt- which i consider also through- this theory promotes a sence of Godlessness than it actually does enlightenment and creativity. Tell a man he is the result of a BIG BANG or whatsoever then you've succeeded in creating a man without control. I am a christian and the bible is my supreme guide through a world void of truth, and my only key to becoming the person God wants me to be. Join me in this walk of faith. PEACE

Even with the BOOK, people are able to distort the Truth.

Without the BOOK, it would have been so much easier for it to be distorted.

However, God could have provided some other way to preserve the Faith.

Of course, Christianity is MORE than a book. It is disciples following Jesus Christ.

No.

If Jesus didn't exist and even his foes acknowledge him, then there'd be no Christianity.

For ages the Jewish religion was a verbal one with no writings. That fact never stopped Judaism.

Most of the Christian faith is based on the verbal or Liturgy.

The fact of things are, that most of what we call Ancient History come to us as conclusions from modern scholars looking at a few bits and pieces. I know of no biography of Attila the Hun written in his day.

I also know as a historian and researcher who has ACTUALLY turned over stones that, for example, every text book on Animation and Cinema History that covers animation has Evelyn Lambert's biography wrong. How do I know, I communicated with her directly. She told me how they all got it wrong. She asked for it to be corrected.

We, at the archive, were also instrumental in introducing the academic world to the earliest known woman filmmaker, predating by 20 or 30 years what they WERE teaching in college.

Also remember, every text book on Astronomy, including the classic works of Hoyle are not inaacurate, out of date and basically tell lies. We no longer have 9 planets, only 8. Pluto got demoted!

I suggest you read Farenheit 451 Just because they are no more books in the world doesn't mean the legacy ends.

Actually true Christianity does not exist because of the bible.

The bible was created because people could not accept the true message of Love and inclusiveness that Jesus left for us.

The judgmental nonsense of the old testament was added precisely because of its conflicting nature with the true teachings of Jesus. This attempt to water down the true teachings of Jesus has been very successful.

Jesus' message of judge not has been almost completely ignored and supplanted by the judgmental message of the old testament.

But, there is a Bible. You are right though, If there was no God that gave us this book there would be no Christianity. On the other hand, this book does exists, therefore there is a God. Excellent observation.

God Bless

Judaism would probably be in a bad way too.

The real answer is without Roman persecution there probably wouldn't have been any Christians. If the Romans had adopted it, as they did with virtually every other cult they encountered, eventually it would have died out, naturally. By singling it out for persecution it got perpetuated.

What have the Romans ever done for us, eh?
