Falling in love is an ego exercise. It's the great achievement of an ego thought system that is always looking outside of itself for its needs. When it falls in love, it has projected the concept of the other person as a sort of savior for satisfying all its needs and perceived lacks. Now, despite this, the ego love can very much grow into real love where the relationship becomes a learning experience of letting the ego goals take a backseat and seeing the other person as the same as you. It becomes real love when this change in perception is then applied to everyone.

Because people don't know the difference between lust and love.
Lust is a worldly thing, attraction to person, place, or thing is lust, it separates us from the love of God. We are commanded to "love one another" by God. Lust is something we are suppose to repent of. When someone falls in love it is really lust combined with or yielding love. A relationship or marriage is a way we can vow to uphold this commandment for at least one other person in the world.

Unconditional love is the ultimate achievement in a relationship, we express this in only two other ways usually: with one's family (parents, siblings, and kids) and with friends (typically best friend), the latter of which is the same as the love in a relationship.

The short version.
Biological trickery to ensure survival of the species (via reproduction).

The long version.
Humans are social animals - we are evolved to crave the company of other human beings, and the positive feelings are our reward for engaging in such behaviour. As rational beings, the concept of sexual reproduction might seem illogical - it is messy, it places you in a vulnerable position, and it consumes a lot of energy and resources. However, by 'falling in love', humans are provided a way to bypass that logic - given a biochemical incentive to associate with one another, conduct courting behaviour, and copulate.
Granted, in social and cultural terms, it is a great deal more complicated. However, the fact remains that you may look like Goofy when you finish 'copulating', but you feel pretty damn good...

Sometimes I look at the one I love. He has, not intentionally, put me through such massive amounts of heartbreak and pain and fear...in the past year, he's beaten cancer only to be diagnosed with lupus, and it wrenches my heart out every day to see him in pain...and that's in addition to all the normal relationship problems that people have.

But at the end of the day, I still can't imagine being with anyone but him, and loving anyone but him like this.

I don't know, to tell you the truth. I think it feels good, very very good, at least in the beginning. And I think that, if even after horrible things happen, you still feel like that...what more can you possibly ask for?

I think a lovely answer I heard from a religious friend was that love makes us realise that people are in God's image, and how amazing the human race is. When we fall for people, we are realising all their little habits and imperfections and idiosycrasies that make them who they are, and (I know I've felt this at any rate) it gives an amazing sense of awe and wonder.

Coz u can't find humans in outerspace!
It's better to fall in love with a person of same species as you so falling in love with aliens would be odd !

Because somewhere out there there is someone for everyone.

We are human and it is Instinctive for us to care for different people in different ways. We love people for the same reason we hate others, only inverted (kinda).

You get the idea.

Many thanks.
