I was asking because of some muslims here in the USA are all gung ho about the quran but they do not cover themselves.
Is it required or is it choice?

No, Muslim women have to cover everything expect they're hands and face. There is a difference of opinion on covering the face. Some women do it due to culture, a high level of religiousness or preference.

This question is so old now........NO Muslim women do not have to cover completely except for their hands. Muslim women who wear a full face veil are a small minority and they do it because they choose too. Other Muslim women are required to dress modestly and most wear a head scarf still showing there faces. But there are also plenty of Muslim women who don't wear a head scarf at all only when they are entering a mosque. Does that answer your question?

no they dont have to cover their hands or feet or face unless they have a lot of makeup and feel more comfortable with covering the lips. Thats as far as it goes. I cover my head and wear loose clothes. The Quran does not say to cover the face but many women feel more comfortable that way. Some of my friends do some dont. I dont feel the need for it considering i dont have to.

It is a matter of choice, and customs of where they are from.
The covering of the hair (hijab) is asked for, but, many Muslim women do not do this. You will find difference in how people practice any given religion.

about covering face i am not completely sure myself,as some ppl contradict with it...while it is in Quran sura Nisa..
but covering whole body except hands is must...some don't follow it that's an another thing

Some chose not to cover at all, but it is required to dress modestly and cover all but your hands and face.

muslim women -- like the Catholic nuns - dress in complete modesty not showing their bodies. what usually hands, feet, faces....no gloves.... on the nuns they now wear short dresses but still.....
