With the recent development of psychology into a viable scientific field, and with the scientific knowledge that has been around for many years but is not closing the gaps, causing our society to finally become advanced enough to cause religion to decline, do you think that in the near or distant future believing in a religion will be classified as a mental illness?

One of the hallmarks of christianity as delineated in the Gospels is the respect and care for the poor. However, in every major city in America and many suburbs there are poor and homeless people running rampant. If Christian churches were really following the word of Jesus, then how can there be such a blantant problem with homelessness.

There are exceptions to every rule, and a few churches do help homeless people disproportionaltely, but let's get real, how many Christian churches really care about the poor.

Whenever I went to church, and there were many different ones I attended, I rarely was encouraged to help poor people, nor were there ever any that were part of the church I was attending.

The churches did however, always direct the sermons, using scriptures, to encourage the generous contribting to an already wealthy and very large church.

It would seem that a fundamental tenant of Christianity should be followed to be considered chrisian religion for tax exemption.

Sorry, I tried to discuss this with some religious friends, but they didn't manage to convince me that this is "bliss"! You will probably see your children every now and then (and only after they have died obviously), you can't play games (surely that would be classed as gambling), no alcohol (I'm not an addict, but I do like a good party every now and then!) and sex in heaven? Don't think I would feel comfy being surrounded by angles all the time.

So why would I want to go to heaven? Come on, believers, convince me! And before you start with the argument that you have agreed to marry that person, as far as I am concerned I agreed to one life-time of marriage, not to eternity!

PS: What happens to those people who got married twice? Will they get to keep 2 partners? Now THAT would be unfair!

regarding Athiests, tons of people answer? I have bcome convinced that there are more Atiests (that secretly want to be Christians) in this "community" than Christians. I think the Athiests must be learning a lot about God. Way to go Athiests!

The theory of evolution is not with out its problems. One scientist says this about life starting on its own:"Almino acids would have to be arranged in an exact sequence to form a protein...just like the letters in a sentence. Mere laws of physics can not do that. The probability of a protein forming by chance would be 10 to the 64th power that is 10 with 64 zeros after it to 1

All things bright and beautifull,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderfull,
The Lord God made them all.

So you've been good and worshipful - you're going to heaven.
And bloke over there has been bad and doesn't believe - he's going to hell.
But what about you, if you've been good and worshipful, but nicked a few quid every week out the church collection to clothe yourself. Are you still good enough to go to heaven? Or are there different levels of eternal bliss?
And will the bad disbelieving bloke go to the same hell as an evil paedophile? Or again, are there different heat settings according to your sins?
'Heaven or Hell' seems a bit of a simplistic choice after so many stringent rules went into the living part. Surely there must be SOMETHING inbetween, just for the normal people?

I myself am a Christian, but I love hearing about the beliefs, values and faiths of others. I'm not looking for someone to try and convince me of their beliefs, nor to persuade me. I know that God is real and that He exists, I'm just curious as to what everyone else believes.

Concept of creation is religious and since there is church and state separation then this should be banned from public schools.

The theory of evolution is backed up by forgeries ( click on my name for some example postings). Also, too many scientists are now expressing serious doubts on this theory of Darwin.

In short the theory of Evolution is false and so we should not be teaching lies to our children.

What do you think?

"JellyBean" asked a question in this category & I kept it on my Watch List just to see what would happen. The question was: I am an atheist! How fast will this question get deleted? VALIDATED. Seems her question was removed; I can't get access to it. (Not resolved, REMOVED.) I'm a bit more than concerned--the question broke NO guidelines.
Can people really be intimidated by the capricious use of "abuse" reports that have no basis? I would NEVER report anyone only because their beliefs are different than mine. I printed out the whole thing, & at least you got 26 answers before a person/persons got it removed. No, I'm not "more than a little concerned"--I am DEEPLY concerned. I had a question removed, a "theoretical" question,& clearly, only because some people responded w/great hostility, ASSUMING I wasn't of their POLITICAL persuasion. I don't think Yahoo should censor us UNLESS we trespass on the stated guidelines. If they can do this, I can't feel free to ask anything. WATCH LIST

Why do you ask questions that provoke religious/nonreligious people and then complain about their answers later? Isn't that kind of childish?

I understand that answering and asking questions to challenge those with opposing views is fun and interesting- I enjoy it myself- but why would you then turn around and complain about the responses you get when that was exactly what you were seeking out?

If we are creatures and just biological organisms reacting to chemical changes in our brain, random or organized firing synapses and neurons.
Where does the first spark of thought come from?
How can 4 billion individual cells react to and decipher vibrations in the air recognize it as language, come into unison and react by re-encoding it to sound by moving muscles in the larynx causing a different tone of vibrations in response to what was first encountered?
How can the most complex computer running the most complex program (which by the way broken down is just 1/0 on and off). Is not able to duplicate what the human mind can do, nor can it repair or self replicate, but was made by Intelligent Design.
I dare anyone to look up the chemical and molecular structure of DNA, the sequence role, Helix geometries etc. then say it all came together by chance.
How can we say our bodies millions of times more intricate than the most complex computer evolve randomly out of a primordial ooze to a single cell to become self aware?
Now THAT takes FAITH!!!

This was the book that frightened me and everntually turned me off to Christianity (a cultish church helped.) Just curious on whether or not people believe it.

In the same respect, has anyone read Journey of Souls? Seems to be a much more peaceful and loving way of believing in a God.
