In Robert W. Funk's book Honest to Jesus, He makes his most valiant effort in answering this question after years of extensive historical and biblical research. In the very beggining of his book, he makes some assumptions about how Americans percieve him. " Americans do not view Jesus as a hero, according to reports now and then in newspapers. " Heroes make history," writes Daniel Boorstin, Pulitzer-prize winning author; "they are known for their achievments." Celebrities on the other hand, are known for being known; they make news, not history. A celebrity functions for many contemporary folk as a role model, as someone to be emulated and imitated because he or she makes news-and makes money.
Although Jesus is not considered a hero, he is thought by some to be a "role model". Jesus is known for being known; everybody knows about Jesus: his name is mentioned on talk shows, and he is frequently the subject of TV documentaries." Is Jesus more than a role-model or celebrity? speak on it

im not trying to bash anyones religion, but i wondered.the bible says if we look at someone and think sexual then we are going to hell; so we all are?and if we have sex without marriage or are gay or cheat, then we are gonna go to hell. how can anyone do this? besides, jesus was supposedly put into mary by god(god wasnt married to mary, so should god go to hell then?) and if we murder or help in murder, we are un-forgivable sinner.im a vegan, but most people eat meat and wear leather and such, so since these animals suffer and are terribly abused and then killed, wouldnt almost everyone be considered unforgivable? why would god be a person if there are so many other creatures on earth?there's estimated 50 billion galaxies out there, so why would this one be so special to have a 'god'? and who knows if there is other planets on the other side of the sun that we cant see?and evolution is a proven fact, so isnt that something? and if you get divorced, you go to hell even if unhappy.

or what legacy do you wish to leave behind for them? Will you force them to follow your belief or will you educate them in all religions equally and let them choose, or will you tell them religion is a myth and simply let your morals be their guide?

theories, surely those two theories belong equally in the classroom? Why are we so fixated on an 'either, or' approach when we might learn a lot more by putting the two theories in tandem? Since meta-theories have empirical implications, genuine differences between ID and Darwin could be pointed out. It's surely unfair that evolution continues to be used as a major tool for undermining belief in God when quantum physics has finally got around to realising the possibility of a higher mind at back of the universe? With parallel universes now being openly talked about, could this not account for heaven and hell, and spirit mediums' claims of contacting those 'on the other side'? Given that in science even wrong ideas often turn up something interesting (because any theory that gets you into the data is going to turn up something), can we not consider the possibility of intelligent design? Already scientists are driven by a sense of design in the lab - reverse engineering, it's called.

I have read the answers on here about Adam and Eve and the fact that they were perfect so therefore the deformities that happen now from incest would not have happened then. My question is though, Adam and Eve did not have Cain and Abel until after they were kicked out of the Garden of Eden, so therefore they were no longer perfect? So how would incest deformities not occur?

In September, 1999, the prestigious magazine, Sciemtific American, published figures showing that while 90% of the general American public believes in a personal God and an afterlife, only 40% of scientists who are BS-degree-only holders so believe and only 10% of scientists regarded as eminent believe in a personal God or an afterlife.

In a 1998 survey of more than 500 members of the National Academy of Scientists, it was found that 72% were atheists, 21% were agnostics and 7% believed in God. A very similar breakdown was found in relation to belief in an afterlife.

Results of a survey published in Skeptic magazine the same year showed that about 40% of scientists in general believed in God. In particular, 40% of mathematicians, 30% of biologists and 20% of physicists were believers, according to the study. These figures tend to agree with the Scientific American figures for BS-holders, while the figures for the NAS correspond more closely with the Scientific American figures

education since many have shown on here they are very educated and still believe and many educated have chose not to believe. Is it personality? Pride, anger, disappointment, or something else? Family influence has shown to be on both sides of the coin. So it must be beyond this as well. What makes one open to the possiblity and not another?????????????

If God know all, knows the past, present and future. Then everything is predetermined and ones actions would not change that outcome. In fact, ones actions would be already predetermined, so how is it that we have "free will" which God gave us. If God gave us "free will", yet he knows the future, then he knows what we will do, and no matter what it is we do, it is predetermined and will not change anything.

It appears that Wal-Mart has caved to the whiney christian movment who have the irrational belief (among many others) that there is a sincere "war against Christmas" and that the term "happy holidays" is an insult directed towards them.

How absurd is it that if christian's don't get their way and their way only the mouthpieces go ape and decide to force corporations into a stance where they have to ignore all opinions but the christian view?

It's almost as if the Christians SEEK persecution.

So if god is the supreme being and he is a form is he laughing at us right now. If one book is supposed to be the only true way to god, then how do you explain the different religious sects. And if god left us a book that is supposed to be our way home back to him. Dont you think he would make sure that the defintion was clear. And that we would know that it was clear by gods power.
when I think of this I think of the game telephone when I was a kid.
Just wondering
