In Robert W. Funk's book Honest to Jesus, He makes his most valiant effort in answering this question after years of extensive historical and biblical research. In the very beggining of his book, he makes some assumptions about how Americans percieve him. " Americans do not view Jesus as a hero, according to reports now and then in newspapers. " Heroes make history," writes Daniel Boorstin, Pulitzer-prize winning author; "they are known for their achievments." Celebrities on the other hand, are known for being known; they make news, not history. A celebrity functions for many contemporary folk as a role model, as someone to be emulated and imitated because he or she makes news-and makes money.
Although Jesus is not considered a hero, he is thought by some to be a "role model". Jesus is known for being known; everybody knows about Jesus: his name is mentioned on talk shows, and he is frequently the subject of TV documentaries." Is Jesus more than a role-model or celebrity? speak on it

Oh Yeah, Funk feels that very little hard information about his real achievments is known by those who share this perception of him being a "role model" or "celebrity".

Here is really not the bast place to get an answer like what you are looking for. First what are you looking for? Historical Jesus or Spiritual Jesus? There is a difference and the real question is which one are you looking for in the way of your question?

Historical Jesus was the son of a carpenter, who at 30 started a ministry where he healed the sick, care for the poor and the lowest poeple of the day. Spiritaul Jesus is a question of faith, I see him as the Living Son of God. That is a faith belief. There are good places that you can get information but I believe that first hand by people close to the person are the best to get information from. The Gospel of John was written by someone that lived with him for 3 years and saw first hand the things he did. Doesn't matter what you choose to believe or not to believe this will give you information concerning who Jesus was. Who Jesus is takes faith and that is a whole other question.

This Is something that you will have to learn for yourself, no one else will be able to answer this for you.

i think you're treading on a very thin sheet of glass with that, but you're walking on a form of truth. But wasn't Jesus also known for his achievements? Healing the poor and the sick, the resurrection, helping everyone he could. Are these not achievements he's known for? I believe there is a layer of truth to that statement but there's not enough reinforcement behind it. If i get a chance i'll read Robert W. Funk's book, but until then i stand by what i say.

There are many books on WHo Jesus is. However, the question is who is Jesus TO YOU? He is different to each person. TO some a figment of our imagination. TO others a man who claimed he was the son of God, nothing more.

To me he is the Son of God who was sent to Earth as a man, was crucified on the Cross and rose from the dead. All to bridge the gap between God and Man. He wasn't known for being Known...he healed the sick...cast out demons and led people to God. I find that to be a little more than a celebrity.

I think he's more of a role model than a celebrity.

I mean, not a lot of people know Jesus, but he's a pretty good guy and gets a lot of respect in the neighborhood.

In spite of the fact that his house is in that really cr*ppy area over by tenth and Labrea, he always keeps his place clean and maintained.

He spends his weekends mentoring young adults, and delivering food to shut-ins and old people.

His kids are well fed, respectful, and very polite.

His boss thinks the world of him, and his wife is almost always smiling.

A good guy all around, but hardly a celebrity.

in case you have not got faith, that is not that puzzling. heavily, we Christians are regrettably brainwashed from the get circulate. you're born, mothers and fathers take you to church, and earlier you are able to talk, walk, and understand you have heard one hundred sermons approximately God and Jesus. Take a step back and look at it from somebody else's eyes. there is not any evidence of God, each so often the Bible tells thoughts that on no account befell, many circumstances our fellow Christians are in basic terms Christians while they experience that is suited, and Christians have a nasty rep with stuffing it down human beings's throats. you are able to not instruct to those who there's a God and Jesus greater beneficial than a guy from scripture. The scripture become written with the help of guy interior the e book which you're able to desire to attain is extremely a stretch. Your faith retains you believing and loving, however the human beings you're relating have no faith. and that i can not blame them. human beings will ask God to furnish them the numbers to win the lottery. Why? Do you have a job? Did you circulate to college? regardless of that is which you will not discover the money for why can not you hit upon the money for it? IS it through fact you made undesirable judgements in existence? in line with possibility that is acceptable in case you are able to not discover the money for it to instruct others that the path you took become not the suitable suited course. My own ideals are that God would not intrude. I refuse to have faith he might enable conflict if he did. I additionally can not have faith he might enable 1 / 4 of a million human beings to be killed with the help of a tsunami if he believed in combating such issues. It couldnt' have been all those human beings's time to circulate. Heaven and Hell, i think of human beings have the incorrect thought. How am i able to delight in somebody's employer without physique? i can not hug them, can not see them, pay attention them, etc. So why do i prefer to circulate to Heaven? i think of that is a physique of ideas which you're in once you die. The delight of understanding which you lived a good existence.

I agree that there is very little actual evidence of his acclaimed achievements and even if he existed but he is know by billions of people for what he supposedly did. So that means that he was more of a role-model and good-doer than a celebrity.

He's known because he sacrificed himself for everyone else. Being the son of God always helps. Kind of hard to forget the guy that created you and everything around you.
