It is not the purpose of most religions to explain the physical properties of the universe. It is not God's stated purpose to teach the physical workings of the universe. The bible pretty much leaves an open question regarding man's future and ongoing exploration of the physical universe.

So, yeah, I'd expect astronomers (atheist or otherwise) to tell us more about the universe that God. I don't think that violates any expectations, religious or otherwise.

The test of any theory is whether or not it provides answers to basic questions. Some well-meaning but misguided people think evolution is a reasonable theory to explain man’s questions about the universe. Evolution is not a good theory—it is just a pagan religion masquerading as science.

Excuse me

Philosophically believing ASTROLOGERS.

Metaphysics people.

MEdiums.

Like the 3 Wise Men who brought gifts to Jesus.

They were Arabic or PErsian Astrologers!

These people were FINANCED by royalty who built them observatories and other items they asked for.

They beleived the human condition was affected by the aspects of cellestial bodies.

These people develeoped geometry, algorithms,. logarithms, they made detailed chartes of the skies, they took accurate measurement and they predicted the return of planets long before Jesus was born.

So, Atheists believe in Astrologers, eh!

GOD did and does teach us about the universe it says HE created the heaven and the earth all things in and around it... then man came along and God gave him the passion to learn and so far he has learned what we all know about it today....

God gave us enough information about the universe in the Bible as we need to know to fulfill His purpose.
Giving scientists the ability to study the universe was a gift to them that we can all learn from...but like I said, we don't NEED to know.

Excellent question. I am not the one to answer it, I challenge you to read the book Case for Creator by Lee Strobel, especially the chapter on cosmology. If I was your neighbor I'd buy the book for you myself. Do yourself a favor and get a good answer to your question. Blessings

I'm not sure they were all atheists, Newton for one was a pretty committted Christian, if a little weird.
