I think that for me personally I look at the origins of the holiday, which really all Christianity did was adopt it from the pagans. Now pagans I can relate to. If you do a little digging you'll see that even the wreath represents the sun-god. The tree is a symbol of the sun-god as well. So for me because my family has adopted all these things, I don't let it bother me, I just get together with them and it's just another day to be with family. NO you're not wrong...you do what feels right to you..ONLY YOU can decide that! If you do these things to please your family, I see nothing wrong with it. I do the same thing, I love them and don't see anything wrong with it, they know I don't believe like they do. :)

I do celebrate Christmas. Wholeheartedly. It is a wonderful, secular consumerist holiday that involves spending too much money, drinking, eating, and general socializing. It is nearly devoid of god. A wonderful and subversive act for any freethinker would be to encourage the celebration of Christmas as nothing more than a cash booster for retail business. When you hear the "put the Christ back in Christmas" crowd bemoaning how the holiday is celebrated, you know you have done your part.

Oh come on, I've even known Jews that celebrate Christmas. They do the Santa for their kids, the tree, and the gift giving. But nothing at all about Christ. I don't think anyone is trying to be offensive toward atheists or anyone who doesn't believe in Christ, but a lot of people do participate in the commercial aspects of the holiday without partaking in the religious aspects. Anyway, I'll try not to offend anyone with my celebrating, you've at least made me more concious of that.

What's funny is that people tell you that you celebrate Christmas since you give and receive gifts and such, and at the same time others are telling you that all of that stuff is taking away focus from the real meaning of Christmas.

No, I do celebrate Christmas. Only that MY celebration is entirely deprived of religious meaning. It's just a dinner with my family.

Why would you let people get to you that way? They can assume all they want. It shouldn't bother you.
