Pythagorean theorem is said to be originated in India. Even he never claimed that he had invented it. On the other hand, he was very much influenced by the Hindu way of living and started a sect by properly initiating his followers and preached Indian philosophy in Italy and India.

Mk, so, I was reading this (http://www.godisimaginary.com/i13.htm) and I read the part that says
"If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property."
I actually looked it up in the Bible, and it does say that. Please explain to me how this viewpoint fits in with the Christian theory that god is loving?

Why are there so many bibles? And which one of them is the true word of God? I have reaserched about the New Testament and found out that it has 27 books: four Gospels and then other books and letters of various writers known as apostles. But Catholics add some verses in the Gospels that are not accepted by the Protestants. The Catholics as well as the Eastern Orthodox Christians accept some books that are not accepted by the Protestants.
As far as the ancient manuscripts of the Bible are concerned, it is known to the Biblical scholars that most of the manuscripts came from the fourth century CE down. The manuscripts that are discovered are mostly partial and their texts differ from each other considerably. M. M. Parvis in the Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible (vol. 4, pp. 594-595) says, "The New Testament is now known, in whole or in part, in nearly five thousand Greek manuscripts alone. Every one of these handwritten copies differ from the other one… It has been estimated that these manuscripts and quotations differ among themselves between 150,000 and 250,000 times

I was raised as a catholic, but renounced my faith when I was about 12 or something. However, I still sometimes get pangs of catholic guilt - you know, where you feel guilty even though you haven't done anything wrong.

Does anyone else still have unwanted interruptions from a faith they long ago discarded?

Fiction please, no holy texts. Age of said fiction is up to you.

My recommendation would be Good Omens by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett. It's an absolutely hilarious read about the end of the world, and offers some pretty valuable insights as well.

A man here in the Cincinnati area killed another man by sliting his throat because the man would not forgive him for stealing a 12 pack of beer from him. Does anyone out there feel they need forgiveness to the degree that they would kill for it?

The first Christians were of Jewish origin, but as it spread, Christians came from various religions of Greece, Rome, and other lands. Were these children being deprived or otherwise harmed by their parents by not allowing them to continue the traditional holidays and observances of Judaism and the other religions?
