You always come up with an interesting question Muslima. No I don't. I'm the one who answered your last question about the parallel universe with the star trek comment. I was just kidding. It was just a joke.

Well considering how serious some people take Startrek then I would say yes. Have you seen a Trekkie? They are so obsessed with it that their who lives are influenced by it, probably even their religion.

I really enjoy Star Trek, but I can't think of any way that the show influenced my religious beliefs. What I did like about it was Star Trek's hopeful vision of humanity's future; that after all the wars and disagreement of our age, humanity will unite and head out into the stars - what a beautiful way to think of the future!

I think I picked up some positive 'religous' views from Star Trek. Like the scene, when they arive on some PLanet in deep space to meet God, and God needs to use Kirks spaceship, and captain Kirk says "What does God need with a space ship?" from movie IV I think

Not movies so much, but novels, yes. Neil Gaiman's American Gods was a big one for that--at the time I read it, I had some half-formed ideas floating around in my mind and the book helped solidify a lot of them (though I don't believe it the way the book puts it--ideas in it just made sense).

I think that things like Star Trek affect people's religious beliefs far more than they know. Our culture is saturated with works of fiction that portray supernatural phenomena - gods, angels, psychic phenomena, life after death, etc. All of these things are obviously false, but we're very used to seeing them in books, movies, and TV shows, and I think that is partly why the majority of people are still willing to accept them.

I don't know this for sure, of course, but I think that if our works of fiction were devoid of portrayals of supernatural phenomena, there'd be a lot less belief in those things.

I don't think they influenced my thoughts about my faith, but I DO think they illustrate them a lot.

Best example: Spock said, "The good of the many out weighs the good of the one." (right before he died of radiation poisoning)
