The bible condemns openmindedness and free thinking doesn't it? Where is the free will in dying? Where is the free will in obeying certain rules? Is it just me or does the bible sound like it is against free will?

im a former christian and now an athiest...and i know it seems like a dumb question since i already know why most christians disagree with the idea of being evolved from an ape...but whats so wrong with the idea that humans are animals? we eat, drink, sleep, #1, #2, think, breathe, feel happiness, saddness, fear, ect. i agree that man is more intellegent since we have self awareness and can build stuff like the ipod, buildings, stoves, and so on. but i dont understand why people feel SO OFFENDED when people say humans are also animals. is it cuz people need to feel like theyre "higher" then the animals?[even though i TOTALLY disagree that any creature on earth is "higher" then the other] do people need to feel "special"? the whole..."created in gods image" stuff? please explain....just curious not really taking a stand on whos belief is right or wrong.

This question is not meant to offend. I'm just asking because I want to see if there are Christians out there who believe that they are not as righteous as the lord that they live by. Most of the Christians that I meet who try to "save me" are some of the worst people I have ever met but the message in the Bible appeals to me because it makes sense to live a virtuous life of love and unity. Unfortunately, if there is a Heaven (a concept I struggle with open-mindedly) I wouldn't want to go there if it means having to be stuck with these close-minded ignoramuses for eternity. I have issues with the idea that you can be a terrible person and by simply believing in Jesus, you have a "free pass" to Heaven.

I'm not crazy about ANY type of fanatic who uses their religion as a pedestal to look down upon and judge others. This type of contempt is not limited to Christianity. I find it curious that a benevolent God would allow such people into his kingdom.

Some religious fundamentalists put down science all the time. I have seen posts by fundamentalists proclaiming evolution is a conspiracy, the big bang didn't happen, the earth is only 6000 years old, dinosaur bones were laid their by the devil, AIDS is God's punishment etc etc.

The list goes on, and on but the implication is clear. Science is bad. Is it because it disagrees with a 3000 year old verse buried somewhere in the Old Testament?

If they are so anti-science why don't they also reject medical science, electrical equipment, cars and planes, electronic communication. They are all products of science too.

Shouldn't that tell you something?

I read this statement in an article
"One who sees only random forces behind why we humans find ourselves here can have no reason to believe in objective categories of good and evil. "

What this implies is that morality and ethics are subject to the whim of people and the society they live in. And that basically there is no such thing as something being always bad or always good.

I was just wondering if you as an atheist hold this to be true. Why or why not

When we do a critical evaluation, as we are not aware of the wholeness of a problem, when we proceed in a path that we think right, there is a 50% chance for success. But if we become doubtful and do not proceed with 100% application, whatever the path there is almost 100% chance for failure. So don't you think Critical Thinking is good only in the beginning, before start. Afterwards Complete Surrender to the Ideal is the best policy to pursue? Otherwise don't you think one may not reach anywhere in Life, if he is always in the Critical Evaluation and Judgemental Mode in Life ? Don't you think there are a lot of things in Life which are required to be blindly followed through imagination and tested ?

Don't you think all those new discoveries are done by people who blindly followed some ideals with their faith and imaginations? Don't you think, all those people who had made a difference in History were somewhat blind followers of some ideals? Even then why so much thrust on Crit.Th.?

Was God trying to support 'free will'? But to God we are mere uneducated children in his great wisdom.....so would you support 'free will' by handing your child a loaded gun? What was God thinking?

First of all, this is not an attack on Christianity so no defensive and close-minded answers please. I am willing to give God a chance if people are willing to answer me with intelligence and a true Christian attitude.

I'm discouraged by the Christians that I meet who have such strong opinions on issues such as gay marriage and other hot button topics. They like to quote the Old Testament with obscure verses about men not laying with men, etc. First of all, if we were to take the Old Testament literally there would be people killing each other left and right in the name of sacrifice, etc. There are 2 verses in the Bible that could loosely be interpreted as anti-gay and 2000 that talk about love and helping out your fellow man. Why are people not concentrating on the obviously clear messages and using loose interpretations to support their own agenda? Also, If one is not willing to confront these issues and question their faith, do they know that what they believe is real?

I've asked God into my life about 5 times already, everytime I said a prayer to ask him Into my life I didn't have a true relationship with him. I didn't read the Bible or anything. But do you think that I can say one final prayer to ask God Into my life and really have a true relationship with him? this time I am ready to have a true relationship with him. I am just wondering how many times can you ask God into your life and how many times will he forgive you? And HOW would I have a true relationship with God If my mom tries to run my life and won't let me go to church, I am 22 years old. I only have a Bible. I need to know how I can start a true relationship with God. I am SOOOOOOOO scared of going to you know where, when I die. please help me people. thank you!

A couple years ago I had found little cards and bookmarks that had a person's name, what it meant and a Bible verse to go with it. After I had those, someone had given me a web site where I could find the Bible verses for anyone's name. Does anyone have any idea where I can find either the web site, or a place to get the cards and bookmarks? THANKS

He places the Tree of Knowledge in the garden for what reason other than so Adam and Eve would eat from it? He is God so he would have already know what would happen. So was God just unwise or did he want to create sin?
