This question is not meant to offend. I'm just asking because I want to see if there are Christians out there who believe that they are not as righteous as the lord that they live by. Most of the Christians that I meet who try to "save me" are some of the worst people I have ever met but the message in the Bible appeals to me because it makes sense to live a virtuous life of love and unity. Unfortunately, if there is a Heaven (a concept I struggle with open-mindedly) I wouldn't want to go there if it means having to be stuck with these close-minded ignoramuses for eternity. I have issues with the idea that you can be a terrible person and by simply believing in Jesus, you have a "free pass" to Heaven.

I'm not crazy about ANY type of fanatic who uses their religion as a pedestal to look down upon and judge others. This type of contempt is not limited to Christianity. I find it curious that a benevolent God would allow such people into his kingdom.

I am LDS and we strongly believe there to more to it than just believe and you are saved. For even Satan believes Christ and Heavenly Father to exist, but he is not saved. Heaven and Hell are hard to understand, but I always found it made the most sense to think of it like this. When we die we are resserected to stand trial and be judged. Our judge is to be the perfect judge, which is ofcourse Christ. Christ is going to put us where we are most comfortable. A man full of evil and inequity could never reside beside heavenly father and be happy. The place he is going to be most comfortable is by those who are like him and that is in Hell. You see, our works here on Earth reflect our love for the savior. If you love him, you will keep his commandments, yeah all of them as best as you can. Keeping these commandments leads to good deeds and good works. So you see, our works are a reflection of our love for the Savior and our Heavenly Father. Christ said, "If you love me, keep my commandments".
Upon this Earth, The Lord has blessed all of us with free agency. That is, we can choose right or wrong. When we choose right, we move closer to our Heavenly father. Choosing wrong, pushes us away. One of our greatest gifts is the gift of repentance. We can repent for our sins through the Mercy of Christ and his attoning sacrifice. All you can do is live your life the best you can, follow the commandments as best you can, and listen to the Spirit as best you can, for the Spirit brings truth to all men. If you have done all you can, repented, been baptized by both water and the fire of the Holy Ghost, and take upon you the name of Christ, which means to love him with all your heart, you have the ordinances needed to be saved. Fear not, for the Lord loves you, and the Lord is not one of confusion. The Spirit will show you the truth if you ask with an open heart and with sincere prayer.

God offers salvation by faith, not by works so that no one can boast (Eph 2:8-9). And if you confess Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that he has risen from the grave, you WILL BE saved (Rom 10:9). It really IS that simple.

For those who believe, God promises forgiveness of all sin (1 Jn 2:12), eternal life (John 3:16), and the indwelling of His Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:19). Oh, and by the way, if God is going to live in you, you must first be made righteous. Completely righteous. In fact, the Bible says this is the righteousness of Christ Himself given to you by faith (Phil 3:9).

The problem with your Christian friends (and all Christians), is that they still live in a fleshly body. God calls us to put to death that old nature, to live a life holy and pleasing to him, but it isn't easy. The world offers many distractions. We all fall short. So the bummer sticker is true...Christians aren't perfect, just forgiven.

Thank God that one day I will be made like Him fully! In glory!

I concur with you. It is sad how others use religion as way to seperate themselves from the rest of society. It's juvenile. I personally believe it all comes down to spirituality and following the concepts creating good in the world. It's like karma. The good you do will return to you in fold. This is my driving principle in life. I try to spread this message to those who are willing to listen. "Question yourself! Question your religion! Question your spirituality, for that is the key to growth! How can you grow in your spirituality if you don't take the time to ask things about yourself?"

Surely a benevolent god wouldn't mind a few questions?

unfortuantely most who call themselves Christians are not really Christians as the Bible describes them. the world tends to refer to anyone who believes in Christ as a Christian. this isn't a true Christian, though. yes, some of those who try to save you might be bad people, cuz they're not true Christians. you cannot get a pass to heaven. this may be with the concept of "once saved, always saved." its obvious you don't believe that b/c you don't think ppl can believe Jesus, yet still sin. this is right! judging others is a sin in the Bible, so Christians, try not to judge!

It far from offends me. This is one of the stumbling blocks I still struggle with. How come someone can, on their death bed, after a life of murder, strife and evil, accept Christ and get into heaven. Jesus says in the bible that those who are forgiven much are much more grateful for it. (Imagine the parable of the person who was forgiven a LARGE debt of millions of dollars, and one who is forgiven a small debt of a few, who would be more grateful?)

Last, but not least, you can tell a Christian by their fruit. Christians are not immune from crappy behavior, we still have our old nature strong and thriving, however if someone can treat you like crap and not feel sorry for it, Christ is not in their life.

I kow exactly what you're saying! Everytime I look in the phone book under "churches" and see all the different factions, I habe this little mental image I conjure up of Jesus, if he were alive today, of looking at all those pages and divided groups and throwing up his hands and saying: "No, no! This is NOT what I had in mind!" LOL.
One of my favorites quotes of Jesus was when he told his followers not to pray in the synagogues where they can be seen by everyone and look good, but to pray in private. So I think He would be mightily freaked out by the hypocrisy that goes on today. And also by the hundreds of different denominations, many of which think that if you don't believe in THEIR way you're going straight to hell.

many people out there claim to be Christian and think they're saved, but they may be mistaken. man, i really wish that i could meet you in person. i'm not trying to brag or anything, but i'm Chritsian, and i like to help people, be there for them, and i try to be a good Christian. i'm not at all offended by your question but it makes me really sad that so many people out there are blind, thinking they're Christian. you're right...believing in Jesus does not give anyone a free pass to heaven. i don't know if i sound like someone who's lived a life, but i'm not even halfway through high school yet.

then become a "Christ follower" not a "Christian"

you may not think it but there is a HUGE difference :)

a christ follower is someone that follows the path set down by the christ the EXACT path (i can not stress that enough it Must be the "exact" path)

and a christian takes what he wants from the path the christ made and makes his "own" path, filled with doctrine and contridictory.

so as you can see there is a difference.

live the way the new test. tells you to and you will be a true christ follower, just as the ones from the bible, the christians lost there way but you have a chance to be what they dream they are :)
