There are many Buddhists who do not believe in reincarnation. However, many do, and they tend to think that either Nirvana or nonexistence are both possible. The idea of enlightenment was that he (and any subsequent Buddha) was freed from the cycle of repeated births and deaths. Contrary to western thought, Buddhists consider the cycle of repeated lifetimes as being subject to ongoing pain, since life on earth means unmet wishes and needs.

Personally, I don't believe in life after death in any form.
