Have they been mostly positive, entirely positive, fraught with misunderstandings? Has anyone's offer of assistance ever been turned down?

I am a secular Humanist whose Humanist Community regularly works with our local chapter of Habitat. We've had nothing but the best possible relationship with our neighbors of faith. Just wanted to know if this is true elsewhere.

(And, yes, I realize this might better belong in the Community Service forum.)

I'm in a really tight financial bond right now. My rent is sky high, daycare is killing my pockets, and I'm just going through so much. I allowed a young lady to move in with me about a year ago, she's my brother's ex-girlfriend, I was nothing but good to her, but in the end I'm the one that got stabbed in the back. (It's a long story) Anyhow, she moved out this morning, and now the portion of the rent she was paying, it falls back on me. I can't afford it guys.

Now, my question is I'm planning a wedding for September of '07. Instead of us waiting until September of 07 should we go ahead and get married now, and we move in together to save on expenses, or should I look for a cheaper apartment?

The reason I posted this question in religion is because we are born-again Christians, and I need some Holy advice. Thanks

I know that there are a lot of people here who think that Satan is a real, living entity. However, I sort of wonder if he is a metaphor for our animal urges. Like it or not, we humans are animals. Animals have the urge to mate and they also have aggressive urges. Satan is supposed to make us do unacceptable things, especially those pertaining to sex or aggression. Since that's the case, doesn't it make sense to consider the possibility that Satan is a metaphor for our unacceptable thoughts and behaviors?

was killed in a car accident Sept 10, 2006- DUI. I hadnt seen him in 6 yrs, but spoke to him for the 1st time the day before he was killed-MYSPACE. I attended his viewing, but not his funeral(too personal) When I went to his viewing his parents were so excited to see me. His mom told me and my fiance that her son had such a crush onme growing up--somethingI never knew and kind of felt bad about-even though He did marry a pretty girl his age.Ever since he passed away, i keep having dreams about him. Nothingsexual or anything, but every now and again, he'll show up in my dreams. Today, I had adream about visitinghismom the day before the funeral-i never did that since i visited at the viewing. Why is it that I keep "dreaming" about him??? is it out of guilt for never being his gf 15 yrs ago??

I have a small group of pagan, wiccan, CUUPs, and new age friends and we would like to do a small Halloween ritual. I've been in rituals, but never designed one myself. We would like to take this opportunity to honor our ancestors and departed friends, as well as the final flourish of the earth before dying down for winter.

Anyone have any ideas of where to start? I've done Halloween rituals with sending messages up to loved ones by burning, but we're all novices at actually creating our own rituals.

It seems every agnostic has a different definition. Sometimes it sounds more like a deist sometimes it sound more like a weak atheist. Can someone give me an actual definition? Because now it seem agnostics just don’t choose a side because they are afraid of being made fun of.

According to the Quran a muslim man who goes to heaven will get 72 high bussommed virgins, but what does a women get?...or do all muslim women go to hell.....

Koran 78:31
As for the righteous, they shall surely triumph. Theirs shall be gardens and vineyards, and high- bosomed virgins for companions: a truly overflowing cup.

Koran 37:40-48
...They will sit with bashful, dark-eyed virgins, as chaste as the sheltered eggs of ostriches.

Koran 44:51-55
...Yes and We shall wed them to dark-eyed houris. (beautiful virgins)

Koran 52:17-20
...They shall recline on couches ranged in rows. To dark-eyed houris (virgins) we shall wed them...

Koran 55:56-57
In them will be bashful virgins neither man nor Jinn will have touched before. Then which of the favours of your Lord will you deny ?"

Koran 55:57-58
Virgins as fair as corals and rubies. Then which of the favours of your Lord will you deny ?"

If so, is there an ark of the covenant in the Most Holy Place with the original ten commandments inside?

What is the purpose of the sanctuary? And why did it have to be cleansed each year on the day of atonement, Yom Kippur?

If there is a sanctuary heaven, does it also need to be cleansed? And when does this happen?

just because the bible says so?
it seems unlikely that this could be so. it says in the bible do not worship any gods before me for i am a jealouse god...
what other gods could he be talking about and why would he be jealouse of them if they do not exsist?

I know people who are LDS, and they believe very much in their religion. And they are definitely willing to share, should you ask. But they don't push it on you or judge you if you don't believe. And if the conversation starts heading toward a debate, they realize that the conversation is heading toward a place where nobody is listening to anybody else.

This behavior tells me that they really truly believe in what they say they believe. They don't need to convince people who don't want to hear about their religion that it's really true.

If you truly believe your religion like the mormons, would you really have to squash other people's doubt? I don't think so. I think people get so offended at people's doubt because it echoes whispers of doubt within yourself. Those mormons who shut down conversation when people start attacking instead of getting viscious themselves are the ones who convince there are people who really believe in christ and have a christian attitude.

Have always been pretty turned off by organised religion, and dogma, however do have some sort of spirituality goin on. Have looked a bit into Humanism, but just thought that was really cold, checked out Unitarianism, an seemed to fit with what I think.

Anyone a Unitarian, who can tell me, what it's really about, and what it's like to be a part of?.

I've looked at some websites and know where my local church is, so I'm not looking for research, I'd just like some genuine first hand opinions. Thanx

Some Christians claim that the Harry Potter books and films glorify Satan, because Harry and his friends are witches. Well, for one thing, Satan is never mentioned in the books or films. For another, witches don't worship Satan. They worship pagan nature gods. The reason why they are often depicted as worshipping Satan is because of propaganda put out by the Catholic Church during the Middle Ages.

I've heard a quote that said something along the lines of: "We are not earthly beings having spiritual experiences, rather we are spiritual beings having earthly experiences."

It makes me want to experience as much as I can. I've seen a lot of good questions going over the really important things in life, so I want to have a little more fun and see some lists of things that you can do for no other reason than "because you can."

Try to be specific, if your going to say "learn" give me a subject...if you're going to say "travel" give me a place and what to do there.

A few I've thought of:

Learn underwater basket weaving
Go to a tupperware party
Go bowling in Canada
Have blue hair for a day

well you get the idea - have fun.

Paganism increased in man the light of beauty, the largeness and height of his life, his aim at many sided perfection

Christianity gave him some vision of divine love and charity

Buddhism has shown him a noble way to be wiser, gentler, purer,

Judaism and Islam showed how to be religiously faithful in action and zealously devoted to God

Hinduism has opened to him the largest and profoundest spiritual possiblilities.

And Finally athesists...are not God disguised laughing at himself and mocking at himself ?

(As written by Sri Aurobindo-the great hindu philosopher)
