I would particularly like to make it clear that the Qur’an does not instruct Muslims to kill non-believers to guarantee them a place in Heaven, as you have said. On the contrary, God commands the believers to invite others to His way in the most peaceful manner. In this call, the Muslims are commanded to appeal to their common sense and to their own faith in truth and justice. Most certainly God has categorically prohibited forcing anyone to accept Islam, let alone killing!

The Qur’an says what means: *{Let there be no compulsion in religion. Truth stands out clear from error: whoever rejects evil and believes in God hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And God heareth and knoweth all things}* (Al-Baqarah 2:256).

*{Say: “The Truth is from your Lord.” Let him who will believe, and let him who will, reject [it]}* (Al-Kahf 18:29).

*{Goodness and evil can never be equal. Repel [evil] with good: then will he between whom and you was hatred become as it were your friend and intimate}* (Fussilat 41:34).

*{Invite [all] to the way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His path, and who receive guidance}* (An-Nahl 16:125).
From these verses it is clear that anyone who uses force to convert a non-Muslim or harm any human being on that score, breaks the divine command; and such a person is not what a Muslim should be.

What is jihad? Is this a real ongoing endless call for the murder of “unbelievers” (a bit like Bush’s War on Terror), or is it a metaphor describing the need to fight for what you believe in and share your faith with the doubters? Explain.

Jihad simply means “striving,” and any effort can be called a jihad. But in Islamic parlance, it stands for the Muslims’ effort to obey the commands of God in their life, even when the odds are against them. In certain contexts, as mentioned above, where fighting for truth and justice becomes unavoidable, that effort can also be called jihad. But today the word is terribly misinterpreted and misunderstood to mean “holy war.” The concept of a holy war comes from the Christian history of the Crusades. Islam never considers war as holy. Fighting is allowed in Islam only as a last resort, as a necessary evil, not as something holy.

The Qur’an says what means: *{To those against whom war is made, permission is given [to fight], because they are wronged;- and verily, Allah is most powerful for their aid…}* (Al-Hajj 22:39).

Islam did not grow by killing people. Through out the history of Islam, where ever the Muslims have ruled, people converted to Islam very slowly, over centuries. Spain became a Muslim country after 200 years of Muslim rule. Even at that time many of its inhabitants were Christians and Jews. This was back in the 700s. Spain remained under Muslim rule for close to a 1000 years and was the most advanced region of Europe. On the other hand, when the Christians re-took Spain they forcefully converted everyone. Its called the Inquisition.

Similarly, India was never a Muslim majority country during the 800 years of Muslim rule there. Majority of their people were all Hindus. Also, during the 600 years of the Otoman Empire most of Europe that came under their rule remained Christian.

If Islam was growing by killing nnon-nbelievers, then Egypt, Syria, and Jordan would not have a third of their population as Christians. Jews would not make up 8% of the Turks. And the Palestinians would not have Christians among them.

So, no, people convert to Islam because they see the logic in it that is clear from curruption. After the 9-11 attacks, the convertion to Islam in America trippled. No one is forcing these people to convert, they read about it and decide on there own.

There are several reasons fro growth of Islam.
1. Muslim can have up to 4 wives. On an average the siblings in a Muslim family are 12 to 15
2.During 7Th to 14Th century they conquered many countries. Most subjects were who were non-Muslims found an easy way for survival. Accept Islam
3.In some conquered lands forcible conversions did take place
4.As per sharia law a non-believer who lives in land ruled as per sharia he has to pay tax or protection money. Also they were second class citizens. To avoid these problems easy way was to accept Islam and be one of the many.
5.Muslim traders and clerics did some remarkable work in converting people and spreading the message of Islam. Indonesia was mainly Buddhist prior to 7/8Th century. Today it is the most populous Muslim country.
Hence it is not entirely right to Say Islam grew by killing of non-believers.

I think the high rate of reproduction is probably a more valid explanation. There aren't nearly so many conversions as births, and if there were that many killings going on I think there would be a lot more coverage - the various bombings and hostage decapitations don't actually increase muslim numbers, and they certainly don't exceed the number of muslims killed by their own people under taliban law. Plus the various allied armies have reduced their numbers by several tens of thousand, so if it is still expanding they have to be coming from somewhere. Given the family sizes in the middle east and african countries where Islam is popular, I would say expansion by birth has to be the primary cause.

Muslim activists constantly boast that, "Islam is the religion of peace and tolerance," They assert that the wars of Islam were only "defensive" actions in response to the aggressions of others. Historical facts belie their assertions. The nations that the Muslims conquered did not pose any threat to Arabia. The countries that the Muslims invaded, had not initiated attacks. The Muslims attacked them with the motive of prospective plunder and the desire to force Islam on the rest of the world. Allah's orders were clear, "When the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practice regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful." Surah 9:5

at the beginning, it does not say that. The Christian bible says that all and sundry varieties of persons could desire to be killed, alongside with people who positioned on mixed fiber outfits. certainly everyone seems to be accustomed to that such historical ideas do no longer belong interior the trendy international. Any Islamic cleric etc who preaches killing non believers is prone to be labelled terrorist, however the e book itself, and the faith as an entire, is not greater a 17 November than Christianity.

No, but Chrisianity certainly did. Just take a look around you unless you are blind. Who's killing who at the moment? Which religion is the most intolerant at the moment? which nations are oppressing which nations? I think you'll find that the west/christianity is responsible for all that.
Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world at the mo and no its not down to birth rate. Its down to sensible intelligent non muslims who would check out the facts/accusations against muslims in a reliable source i.e Quran and not just take the word of newspapers like Sun!!!! They see that Islam is not what the West portrays it as. Dumb ***!!! If you really want answer to your question, take a look at Quran and judge it for yourself.
