Satan is metaphor for Lie / Belief, compared with The Truth, representing God.
Tree of knowledge of " Good and Evil " is source of Lie / Belief that was chosen rather than Eternal life.
Satan is fable created for people, to point finger at, for what they know it's responsible for " Evil " which shouldn't be done.
Book of Job is very nice example, explaining that so called " Satan " is nothing else but God's Foreman.
God is Everything. God is Love. Lack of love is fabrication of Satan.

First of all Satan does not have the power to make you do anything. He is not even a demiGod. He can suggest and tempt but that is about it for his control over you. That's the beauty of free will. You cannot blame Satan for making you so something bad anymore than you can claim God made you make a right choice. He has the power to do so but has opted to give you freewill to chose. That is not to say that you may not hear his quite voice urging you to do the right thing though. And I think Satan is a living entity. The bible says he is and I place my faith in the bible.

I think Satan is a metaphor. I have heard Satan referred to as "the Enemy" also. I think that Satan is not a person by any means - and we are our own worst Enemy.
The temptation and evil that happens in a person's everyday life is their own negative thoughts and beliefs. Some say that is how Satan works, but I think it has more to do with the flesh and this 100% "in our own heads existence". It is so easy to become consumed with doubt, to feel lonely, to be taught lack and limitation, to go with the fear and it's accompanying hatred when we are in this existence. It damages our bodies, it creates lack and limitation, and it clouds the issues we are supposed to be learning here. I think that if we are consumed with these negative emotion upon our death, it will obscure our way "home" and we will be condemned to our own personal hell until we release it.
Good question! Peace!

Jesus call Peter "Satan"
16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
(King James Bible, Matthew)
So when we chose our own way instead of Jesus's way we are "Satan"
Satan is just a metaphor for following the ways of the world.
also consider:
In 2006 more than half of adults (55%) say that the devil, or Satan, is not a living being but is a symbol of evil.
In 2006 45% of born again Christians deny Satan's existence.
Slightly more than two-thirds of Catholics (68%) say the devil is non-existent and only a symbol of evil. (2006).

Most likely. It comes from Islams "Shaitan", the Adversary.
FUNNY HUH! Christianity's term coming from muslims?
The word Devil is just the "personification" of evil. A focus point.
It's easier to say Devil or Satan, or Evil, than to name all the CHIT
that's evil, RIGHT!
Like my "cronies" and I keep trying to teach these INFIDELS. SOCIETY has an irrational fear of WORDS!
It doesn't matter if there is one evil being called Satan. Because there are millions of evil beings out there. Many right here on Earth!
Satan is a Paradox. A way out. Someone to blame. But once one matures past that stage. One realizes one is responsible for
his or her own actions.

in case you have self belief that God is a real entity and that he created human beings and angels, then you definitely ought to have self belief that devil is a real entity. The bible needless to say describes devil as a particular individual who became an particularly egotistical angel that fell from grace, tempted Adam or maybe, tried to tempt Jesus, and is desperately attempting to instruct all human beings far flung from God as he did effectively with one 0.33 of the angels. He has already been solid out of heaven and at last would be destroyed on earth.

If you are referring to the Biblical Satan, then no. He is depicted as a real character. There is an entire biography on Satan in the Bible and he appears often throughout the Bible as a real person/being.

No. Satan is not a metaphor. He is real, just as God is real. People either believe the Bible or they dont, and its certainly a choice. But there is more evidence for this than for all the other stuff people preach at us. where is their evidence/?? If one does believe the Bible, then they know. God is real. The devil is real, and we must choose which one we will follow, and that decision decides on whether we have eternity in Heaven with God, or a lifetime in Hell with the devil. God never rejects anyone and sends them to hell. We people deciede by our choices and our actions which one we choose and God gives us what we want. we either accept or reject GOD, not the other way around. Why would a pervert want to be in Heaven, with no people to prey on. Its perfect there, no sinning. He would be miserable. Sad part is, when he gets to hell, he wont be doing anything there either that he wants to do. read your Bibles. Hell isnot a place I would choose. All of you so called non believers, what if you are wrong? Are you willing to take a chance.? Many of us Christians have had miracles happen and had experences happen to SHOW us the realness of God, and how hard He works at loving us and saving us. But the devil is hard at work too, trying to tear down anything God gives us. Its a choice folks. As long as the devil makes us think this is all just made up fairy tails, like the easter bunny and santa claus, noone will take it serious enuff to take a GOOD look at it. We better start looking SOON because Jesus is coming soon to rapture HIs true Church home. His followers, His loyal obedient people. We love all you out there that dont believe and so does God. But, we hate what you do when you sin, because we know what the end result will be. Please look up, get out your Bible and start asking God about things yourself. How do you know your Budda is real? or your Allah? It all comes down to faith, and what we choose makes more sense to believe in. But, NO< the devil is not a little mataphor, to explain why we do bad things. We do bad things when we listen to the devil. He is real. Just as GOD is. When you lay on your deathbed, or you watch one of your children lay there, who will you ask for Help? Most military will tell you about their foxhole experiences. when in that foxhole faced with death, believe you me, MOST start praying, cuz somewhere way down deep, we all have a knowing, just that the devil silences it. Choice is yours to beieve it while you still have time, or continue rejecting the realness of God and the devil.
