Do what I did. Read it all for yourself. Do not let people tell you what it means. Think about what you are reading. Does it make sense? Does it seem like fables with morals to the story. Does that raise any red flags that these stories were written for a purpose? Does the unfairness and violence seem just a tad overblown and ungodlike? Now note that in every book of the Bible they are always talking about the past tense. Nothing is written in the "now". Therefore, the people who were supposed to have written it, couldn't have. It was all history, pretty ancient history, by the time whoever wrote it put it down. And since we don't know who did that and why, and we don't know if what they say is true because it had been passed down for centuries, why should be believe any of it. If it was really important and God was inspiring someone to put it in words, he would have done it when the stuff was fresh and first hand experiences. It doesn't take much brain-noodling to realize that it's all a bunch of hogwash. Stories to frighten people into behaving in a civil manner and threaten them with a vengeful god if they don't behave. The same goes for the New Testament. It's all political garbage of the day written after Jesus' death and putting doctrine in his mouth that he never said. Which is why Jefferson wrote his Bible, to weed out all the crap that everyone attributed to Jesus.

They can be sure of just the opposite, it just takes a certain flexibilty of mind that those who believe in biblical accuracy cannot possibly acheive.
For those who have no stake in this sort of thing it is clearly obvious that the bible has no more claim to the truth than the literally hundreds of holy texts that exist in other cultures.

I'm still waiting for archelogists to uncover the missing first page of the Bible that says
"This is a work of fiction and any relation to real life people or events is purely coincidental. Copyright all rights reserved" :-)

Jesus said: If anyone will know the truth, if he ACTS on Jesus's word, he WILL know the truth, whether he spoke of himself or by the authority of God.
Have you ACTED on the Word of God yet ? It is the ONLY way you will ever know for sure.
I'm always amazed at all the Biblically ignorant people who are always trying to convince us the Bible is not true .....mostly it is those who haven't even read it!...and they are trying to prove to us who have studied it for 30 years ! Ha, ha ...these mockers are laughable ... laughable

If you ever study it. Seriously I mean, you will come to believe it. More scholars have studied the Bible than any other subject. Once you begin to see how accurate it is historically, and how objections to it are unfounded-you will believe. Its not just a book of hocus pocus-its real.

The Word itself says not to give heed to fables that turn from truth. People used to be taught with stories.
Today, we have been given the knowledge of the Universe!
Why do we deny our own experiences?

It's a collection of mythic stories cobbled together to keeps the masses in line.
While some parts may be historically accurate (e.g Pilate as govenor of Judea) the rest is not (the whole god and messiah thing)
