Why do we carve pumkins for Halloween? Other than peculiar porch art, is there a reason for it? Is it some nearly forgotten, or commercialized Wiccan or paganist ritual that we participate in every year without knowing why?

To better explain myself, do you think the way you were as a child and the way you seen things have an effect on you are as an adult today in the present? Plus, can looking back on your childhood give you the insight you need to progress spiritually? Knowing who you were comparing that to who you are now, and what's changed as you got older. Your thoughts on this scenario and outlook on life.

Christians always say, if you don't believe in god, then what's the point of life? How can you find meaning if you don't believe in a higher power? Well, ok so how does believing in God give meaning to anything? So he put us here, then we die and go to heaven or hell or whatever..what was the point of all that? It still has no more meaning than if there wasn't a god. Some say well this is just some test he's giving all of us. Well if he created us all and has unlimited power, why would he need to test anything? Why not bypass it all and send people directly to a heaven or a hell. Or not have a heaven or hell and just create good people or what have you. Ur thoughts please

Why is it when someone poses a question, or you comment on an answer, they get defensive on your answer when you do not agree with what they think is right. This is a Q & A Forum I thought. Now I have hate messages and they are trying to argue to get their point across. It is a good thing that I know how to ignore them, and not read the messages. I am just deleting them without reading the remarks. It seems that some people are miserable and want everyone to be miserable with them to put it kindly. Everyone has a point to make and that is what this is about with the answers that are given, as advise is what people are asking for so I would assume. No one person has all the answers, so opinions vary in their response. This seems to be more common in this catagory than in any other. Anyone else going through this type of situation in here?

It is written in the bible to renew ones mind with the Word of God. That the truth sets people free. Lies are what keep us in bondage.

Why would man adhere to a moral code or live in conformity with the rules of society? Would not chaos or at least existentialism dominate human existance? Withoumoral absolutes... doesn't anything go?

Because technically everything is brainwashing if it convinces you that life has meaning beyond what pleases us. I figure that our lives can only seem purposeful if we lie to ourselves. Religion, art, family, politics, drugs. They serve no other purpose but to dispense endorphins, and it's part of our instincts to desperately seek ways of raising our serotonin level. However, the more we learn, the harder it gets. If religious people have an easier time then why shouldn't we just leave them alone? Even if they turn America into a theocracy, at least we'll have something to fight for (giving us another outlet for more endorphins).

"And the LORD GOD prepared a gourd, and made it come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd.

"But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd that it withered.

"And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.

"And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd?
And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.

"Then said the LORD, thou hast had pity on the gourd, for which thou hast not labored, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:

"And should I not spare Ninevah, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?" Jonah 3
