The Bible says that the earth is flat, revolves around the sun, and was created in 6 days. This has all been proven incorrect. Why should I respect this?

If you were to say that Canada bombed Pearl Harbor, it would be ok for me to laugh at such an absurd claim. But when you say something equally rediculous and attach the word "god" at the end of it, it's not ok for me to laugh at you (though I still do, of course).

What's wrong with change? The simple fact is that these books are wrong. End of story. Just have an open mind.

Am I the only one who believes that respecting all manners of absurdities such as gods and devils and heavens and hells and whatnot, is just a big dead-end?

We need to be open to evidence and ready to change. Even when it comes to spirituality. No free passes for religion. We are killing eachother over what these books say because we have faith in them. Faith is a DANGEROUS thing, and if you don't believe me, just check out a history book.

Evolution is the occurrence where the incomplex grow more complex. It is gradual, a unicellular organism did not become a fish over-night. So all complex systems developed slowly from incomplex things. Now that is evolution in a very very very small nutshell. I want you to tell me what is so unbelievable about gradual change, and if you have ever taken highschool biology. I want a nice answer on this.

When the Pope made his remarks, quoting part of a book that had in its pages a damnation of Islam as evil, I secretly cheered. I don't believe Islam itself is evil, and I don't believe the Pope is sacred. I myself am a Pagan. What made me cheer was the fact that someone was finally calling Islam to task for something.

Islam is like Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson was cool once. He was popular and easy to be around. Then, he started going a little screwy. He started saying and doing things that seemed contradictory to what he had stood for for so long. When people questioned his new look, his new act, his many controversies, he didn't answer the questions directly. Instead, he got defensive and demanded an apology to avoid answering for his different actions.

I think Islam is the same. People may bill it as a peaceful religion, but it seems anything but peaceful. And I'm not referring to the terrorism. I'm referring to the riots last year about a stupid cartoon.

Sometimes I have a problem with the idea of him sending people to hell for not measuring up. I don't mean the vile lowlifes of history but 'average Christians.'

I'm serious. I'm not being cheeky. What middle ground could there be where absolutely no one felt they were being marginalized?

Please don't respond with "Christians get your dern paws out of our lawbooks"

I'm looking for something a bit deeper than that.
