Matthew 18 does not say that one must become a child again in order to get into Heaven. "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 18:3-4).
This has been explained to me like this...
If you have kids, you know that there are things in this world that, if you tell them, they accept with little or no difficulty. If you tell them that God exists, they have absolute faith in this fact. If you don't believe me, tell most any 5 year old in this country that a fat man flies around once a year being pulled by magical reindeer and has gifts for everyone, they'll most likely be looking for him at least once. Thus, this scripture is telling the disciples that they must accept unconditionally and have the utmost faith in God and his word, or they will not get into heaven. Thus, if you are baptized and believe, you are saved through God's grace.

Actually Mt. 18:3. If you go a little farther in Mt. you will find that Jesus loved chidren.(Mt. 19:14) It says that Jesus welcomed children. Now to get the understanding of this look at 1 Peter 2:2.
Form a longing for the basics, or "unadulterated milk", that you would learn as a child. Get a good understanding of these and you would enter into his Kingdom.

“Unless you turn around and become as young children, you will by no means enter into the kingdom of the heavens.” Not " become a child again"
One time, Jesus used a little child to teach His friends an important lesson. He took the child and stood him in the middle of His disciples, who were His followers. Then Jesus said that these grown men must change their ways and become like this little one.
What did Jesus mean when he said that? Do you know how a grown man, or even a little older child, should become like a small child? Well, a small child does not know as much as an older person and is willing to learn. So Jesus was saying that his disciples need to be humble, as small children are. Yes, we can all learn many things from other people. And we should all realize that the teachings of Jesus are more important than our own ideas. Matthew 18:1-5.
What a marvelous way to correct his disciples! Jesus does not become angry with them and call them haughty, greedy, or ambitious. No, but he illustrates his corrective teaching by using young children, who are characteristically modest, free from ambition, and generally have no thought of rank among themselves. Thus Jesus shows that his disciples need to develop these same qualities that characterize humble children. As Jesus concludes: “He that conducts himself as a lesser one among all of you is the one that is great.”
All those desiring to attain life in the Kingdom of heaven must display the childlike qualities of humility, receptiveness, and trust. (Mt 18:2-4) Men and women who strive to obey God by manifesting the light of truth in their lives are described as “obedient children” and as “children of light.”
Paul counseled the congregation at Corinth as he would children, to “widen out” in affection; prior to this he had encouraged them not to become children in powers of understanding. 2Co 6:13; 1Co 14:20.

He refers to you being "born again" Born of the Spirit. When someone is first born do they automatically know all that they should? Of course not. Nor is a young (as in the Spirit) Christian expected to know all that Jesus teaches. So you are a "Child in Christ Jesus" In the same token, All Little Children who die before they are old enough to reach an understanding of God and his plan for Salvation. Will go to Heaven.

Notice it doesn't say become a child it says AS a child. Simply trusting your heavenly father. Humble like a little child to ask forgivness..
Mat 18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 18:4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

I went to church for years.. .a pew sitter. . .but I had no relationship with Jesus.
In my early twenties I didn't want a quasi relationship with Him. I wanted something more tangible & real. I saw Raiders of the Lost Ark, where he's told to step out in "faith". He takes a step off the cliff & a ledge comes out under his foot. I decided I would start praying "as if" Jesus were right there & I were really communicating with Him. It didn't take long before I began to feel His presence & sense His voice. It's something science cannot prove. But when it happens to you - you KNOW that you know you have met Jesus. Much different than my earlier years.
It's not easy having a childlike faith! Peace & Blessings!!

I take it your not a parent!
A five to eight year old, will believe almost anything they are told by there parent!
To take the word of the lord on the very lowest level of teaching and believe, because they believe, is truly blessed!
In heaven they will be numbered among the Great!
Far more than I will ever be blessed!
I will be in heaven and am luck to be!

Matt 18:3.4
Verse 3. Except ye be converted - The first step toward entering into the kingdom of grace, is to become as little children: lowly in heart, knowing yourselves utterly ignorant and helpless, and hanging wholly on your Father who is in heaven, for a supply of all your wants. We may farther assert, (though it is doubtful whether this text implies so much, ) except ye be turned from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God:, except ye be entirely, inwardly changed, renewed in the image of God, ye cannot enter into the kingdom of glory. Thus must every man be converted in this life, or he can never enter into life eternal. Ye shall in no wise enter - So far from being great in it. Matt. xix, 14.

misquote! He says that you must become LIKE a child, to enter into heaven. A child has complete faith, they will do what ever an adult tells them, we must become like a child being faithful to our Father in Heaven, submissive and humble.
