The Bible says that the earth is flat, revolves around the sun, and was created in 6 days. This has all been proven incorrect. Why should I respect this?

If you were to say that Canada bombed Pearl Harbor, it would be ok for me to laugh at such an absurd claim. But when you say something equally rediculous and attach the word "god" at the end of it, it's not ok for me to laugh at you (though I still do, of course).

What's wrong with change? The simple fact is that these books are wrong. End of story. Just have an open mind.

Am I the only one who believes that respecting all manners of absurdities such as gods and devils and heavens and hells and whatnot, is just a big dead-end?

We need to be open to evidence and ready to change. Even when it comes to spirituality. No free passes for religion. We are killing eachother over what these books say because we have faith in them. Faith is a DANGEROUS thing, and if you don't believe me, just check out a history book.

I'm only asking that we all be rational human beings. Drop the ancient myths.

I don't respect false historical statements.
So..
I don't respect false spiritual statements.

Easy enough to understand?

Progress people! That is what we need! Not ignorant faith!

Respecting this bullshit is getting millions of people KILLED EVERY YEAR! Is it really worth it?

My beliefs are centered around EVIDENCE! Testable, unbiased evidence! Scientiffically proven, and reprovable facts!

Yours are ancient myth based stuff that can only be followed through cultlike brainwashings.

People respect religion, because it is SUPPOSED to represent the Highest ideals of Humanity at the time the religion manifested.

If you were an American, would you respect the simple but meaningful document called the Declaration of Independence? It's not the paper you are respecting, but the value of what was written. Something that brought freedom and liberty to millions of people... who still enjoy its benefits till today

The same with religion, flat world, round world... I dont really care hehe, I personally believe scriptures and texts can be altered thru intrepretation. Loss of subtled meanings through translations, here is where we follow what our heart and mind tells us. Whether Spiritual or non-spiritual, at the end of the day we can only have any sort of faith IF our heart and mind "approves" if only one aspect approves, thats when Faith is wavering, because one part of us sees a "flaw" in the engine.

So at the end of the day, respect the essence of Highest Ideals which was written in texts, not the words, not the paper nor the font. That is how I believe respect of religion should come from... this applies to any philosophies in Life.... whatever touches our hearts and enlivens our minds

I don't see the problem in respecting the Bible just because it is saying something I don't believe in. Its a different matter from somebody insisting that I must believe it (or condemn it, for your matter). Every belief that isn't harmful deserves some basic respect. Showing disrespect just because you don't believe in it makes you no different from those who "are killing each other over what these books say".

Edit: It isn't "respecting this bullshit" that is "getting millions of people killed every year", it is the disrespect for the "bullshit" that is causing the murders. If you don't want killings you should correct the attitude not the beliefs. FYI, I also believe in science and not the Bible, but if you hate me for disagreeing with you you probably want to kill me too. Isn't it easy enough to understand?

religion is a good source of rules of life, when not followed, bad things occur...aids, sexual diseases, disasters and so on...all and all, men create things to kill us and pull us away from God and then it leds to people questioning their faith like you. The Bible has much due respect b/c everything in there has come true! How could it not? Look when it was written so long ago and yet everything in it is coming true, they have even found ark pieces and things that mosses wrote in Hebrew language interpreted in to things that are occurring everywhere right now as we speak, just from people not obeying the laws. ex. men are weak and in my belief, women are suppose to cover up, this helps the cause of infidelity...It really is if you think about all the trash you see on the man invented t.v. ....girls gone wild ex. there are othr things if you think about the laws mosses wrote. The other is gay, you, we, are not born that way, that is a want or a desire to try something new, never intended, its ment one way and thats it.....all and all, people dont follow the design, the design of life that is, we dont follow the rules and what happens usually when you dont know how something works and you dont read the instructions....well 50 /50 chance youll get it right, same with your life....

I believe in a greater power who created all living things and sky, air, water, clouds, etc. but I dont hold anything against people who believe in what they feel is right its their free will but dont shove it down my throat........I Dont believe in the written word man wrote the Bible man has a way of changing things to his liking stories tend to change as passed on. I believe in what I believe and resecpt what others believe as long as it does not call for killing of others

I must say I have never seen in a bible that the world was flat onlt in history books I would think who ever made the planets would know it wasnt flat so if is in a bible my point is true to me how man writes what he wants.
And if you do read a history book you will see how it repeats itself ****crazy world we live in

You ask why do we respect religion and then tell us clearly it is unworthy of respect because it is a big dead end - but to give respect is to show no bias - so, either we respect or we do not - we cannot choose what is to be respected or what is not to be respected - we can only choose if we will be one who respects or if we will be one who does not respect. I have chosen to respect, even that which I cannot agree with, because it is far greater a privilege to have the freedom to respect than not to have the choice of that freedom.

We all have our own opinions . I do not believe in organized religon myself , however it is not my job to try and force my opinions on others .
I don't feel that in these days that the churches are following what they teach . I know too many hipicrites who leave church and go home and beat their children or , well you get the idea .
My whole point here was live and let live . Don't push our "truths"
on others .
Have a great evening !!!

you don't need to respect the religion, but you do need to respect the people who believe in it. just as they need to respect that you do not.
