Heres why:

"...he heard the Prophet saying, "From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks AND THE USE OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS, as lawful. And there will be some people who will stay near the side of a mountain and in the evening their shepherd will come to them with their sheep and ask them for something, but they will say to him, 'Return to us tomorrow.' ALLAH WILL DESTROY THEM DURING THE NIGHT and will let the mountain fall on them, and HE WILL TRANSFORM THE REST OF THEM INTO MONKEYS AND PIGS and they will remain so till the Day of Resurrection." http://www.islamicity.com/mosque/sunnah/bukhari/069.sbt.html#007.069.494v

In America, not as many Muslims reject all music, but the majority of the Islamic world does because of the Islamic scripture posted above. Its not just the Taliban by any means. Google it, and check the authenticity of my citation.

Innocent kids who go to school should be learning about the world, not being hand fed hatred and violence. Palestinian children are taught to hate from an early age, and no one does anything to stop it.

Yes this is for atheists and agnostics as well, if like me (an agnostic) you can respect faith.

Whose faith do you respect more?

A) someone who believes in their religions and holds fast to the idea that their religion (or book) is 100% correct, even when factual evidence disagrees with it

or

B) someone who believes but are willing to accept that there may be something not 100% correct about a particular text... but who instead thinks that it is the general IDEA that is more important than quibbling over specifics (eg whether Genesis is literal or not)

I respect B more that the fundie "A"

I think that that person "A" has 'brittle' faith. Holding stubbornly and literally to things that are ludicrous to take as fact (eg Noah's ark) is to have a faith that is easily broken

Person "B' has faith like an oak. It is strong and can bend & adjust when reality requires it. It also lasts much longer than faith A

-this ? is in honor of shadowgirl, a christian of type "B" whom I respect

and see how convinced and dedicated they are to their faith - yet from your perspective you know that what they believe isn't real. Likewise - the other person looks at your religion and is equally convinced that they are correct and you are deluded. How do you know that you really are the one who is right - knowing that if you are wrong that you will be equally sure that you are right?

Jehovah's Witnesses refuse to join the armed services and participate in politics.
If there is a draft, will Jehovah's Witnesses be excluded because it's against their religion?

The problem is the lower level guys, they call me Gay Mariotti behind my back and scoff at my articles. On their bulletin board, they put pervese pictures of me with the help of photosho (I won't get in to it). I feel they are jealous because I am an all time sports writer for the newspaper, and because I am getting a well deserved raise while they are getting layed off. They accuse me of being arrogant because I called them insignificant people when I introduced myself for the very first time. My interns are rude to because I make them do tasks such as get my drycleaning, be my footrest, or pay my parking tickets (all fair tasks in my opinion). How can I get them to stop being rude and chidish to me?

Susan is a mute and is slighlty menally challenged - unable to speak at all, so her adoptive parents decided to teach her sign lanuage. It was tough at first but she caught on quick enough & was able to indicat her desire, (food, bathroom) her wants (her fav. toy, play time) etc. Once she was older her parents put her in a "home" in which she bonded with another woman named Penny.

Susan later in life got pregnant & miscarried which was traumatic for her. Shortly after, Penny became pregnant and had to go on materinty leave - leaving Susan alone.

She became withdrawn and hated all the other caregivers. When Penny returned Susan snubbed her until Penny had to sign to her that she too lost her baby. Susan signed to her "You are sad, come here and I will hug you" Obvisouly showing that she understood what had happened to Penny.

This is a true story. Now what if I told you that Susan's real name is Washoe & she is a chimpanzee that was raised in a loving home in suberbia by scientists

Given that over more and more questionning, people aren't even attempting to defend the concept of an infallible bible...
see:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/?qid=20060917150514AAgIV1C&r=w
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/?qid=20060917151818AAV9ad5&r=w

(Either people aren't even answering, or they're trying to change the topic with their answers)

Anyway, can we agree that the bible is a book of Christian teaching that some believe to be the Word of God (caps for respect), but that any claim that said book is infallible is simply indefensible?

(The Bible may have some great teachings, but the concept of its prefection can be ruled out by historical fact)
