I think it is just terrible. He supposed to be a peace making and bridge builer. His appologie was not enough because he said he was sorry for the reaction and not what he said. What do you think? Was he right in what he said? What effect does his words have?

I agree with you. He should not have said that, even if it was just a quote from centuries earlier. A Pope should promote peace and goodwill towards all, not fermenting further chaos or dissent.

It's a good gesture that he said he was sorry for the reaction, but not enough, since he didn't actually apologize himself.

I completely agree.
