Isn't it complete aggorance, ignorance, and intolerance to believe that people cannot live a moral, ethical life unless they subscribe to your religion?

I can't help it. I love Odetta and Aretha and Elvis's Gospel and Ralph Stanley and I'll fly away and goin' down to the river to pray and gettin' on my travelin' shoes and dropping my g's all over the place.
Of course it's all nonsense. But such beautiful heartfelt, moving nonsense. You could almost wish it were true. I heard a recording of shaped note singing recorded in the 1950s in the back of the beyond of Tennesee, preformed by people who probably had 6 teeth apiece and no education beyond the 6th grade but how they sung. With no instruments. Just one leader lining the words for the people who couldn't read. Fabulous.
Anybodu else love this?

After I asked my last question, I felt as though they were in denial. It is as though their mind will not allow speculation regarding various situations and their God. I can place my self in made up scenarios to answer their questions, but they seem to lack the ability to do it.

This was my question:

Notice their answers.. This is where I am currently drawing my conclusion from. I will note that not all Christians are this way, but there seems to be quite a few on this board that are.

Sometimes...the preacher man is absolutly right!

A Baptist Preacher was seated next to a cowboy on a flight to Texas.
After the plane took off, the cowboy asked for a whiskey and soda, which was brought and placed before him.

The flight attendant then asked the preacher if he would like a drink.
Appalled, the preacher replied, "I'd rather be tied up and taken advantage of by women of ill-repute, than let liquor touch my lips."

The cowboy then handed his drink back to the attendant and said,
"Me too, I didn't know we had a choice.."

It's nothing but absurdity from start to finish. But let me address just one facet of the story: The claim that it rained 40 days and 40 night until the whole Earth was covered up to the highest mountain.

That would be Everest (29108 feet). If you're like me, you've just gone through a really rainy day. Maybe 2 or 3 inches fell, a pretty hard rain. Well, in order for the water to top the highest mountain in 40 days, it would have to rain 6.064 inches---

-- PER MINUTE! Every minute of every day! There isn't enough water in the world to get it as high as Everest. What a ridiculous story! It insults our intelligence to be asked to believe it. What's more, Jewish authorities like Maimomides advised people that the first 11 chapters of Genesis are not to be taken as literal history. The Noah story is a retelling of the Epic of Gilgamesh, that the Jews learned of during the Babylonian Exile.

And don't get me started on the other practical problems. Or the monstrousness of God!

To me, if a higher authority figure doesn't exist in peoples' minds, chaos would ensue. If everyone believes that anything goes, then nobody would have a moral compass to guide their behavior. How do atheists regulate their bad behavior?

and suddenly look around you, and start asking yourself... "Why am I here? Where is this place? What am I doing here?"

Sometimes when it happens to me, it makes me feel that what's around me, is not real. It take about a minute for me to get back. Does anyone knows what's this phenomenem called? Have you had that experience?

A few minutes ago I asked if homophobia was a sin. A majority of the responses indicate it is.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=An7Z.KufmQVtmpdt359jr.Lsy6IX?qid=20060903083029AAM2JbY

What would be reasonable for a person to do to address this sin? When a person steals, they should return or pay for the item taken, but what amends are reasonable in this circumstance?

2 Kings 13:20-21, "So Elisha died, and they buried him. ....And as a man was being buried, lo, a maurading band was seen and the man was CAST INTO THE GRAVE OF ELISHA; --AND AS SOON AS THE MAN TOUCHED THE BONES OF ELISHA, HE REVIED, AND STOOD ON HIS FEET."

Many people don't believe that relics, bones, etc of the saints have healing or helpful power. They say it's a Catholic, and Orthodox belief only that was man made, and not biblical.

So explain this verse then. There are other biblical examples too.

How can you believe in a literal, inerrant bible?

Since the bible was create by a democratic process of men voting on various writings...
And it was nearly universal that people think that democratic processes conducted by man are fallible...

Doesn't it logically imply that the bible must be fallible?

what if the book of "Corinthians" was included by mistake?
what if the Gospel According to Bubba, or the First Letter of Maggie to her Sorority, were really the word of god, but got voted out?

All this summer I was really feeling Christianity. I was becoming a better Christian and everything. Then when school starts I started to go back to the way I used to be. I started cussing, I lusted(on that real serious tip), I even started to believe that there was no God.

I don't get it. Inside of my house I was very religious, like I am right now(im in my house), but when I got into school I started letting my demons get the worst of me.

How can I stop this?

Every aspect of The Bible is a manuscript for War-and is proof Your Loving God is a VIOLENT individual entity-He admittedly is Jealoos-and has chosen to War upon his own Creation Satan because Satan saw him for what he is-a Bastard King-The true Heros in The Bible all have killed somebody or warred on somebody or called God down on something or somebody-Moses was responsible for Pharos son-ect. and in every text we see violence-then you see a peaceful loving Jesus come to Earth and suffer-after he causes more problems than good which is evident in the fact that HIS PEOPLE CRUCIFIED HIM and allowed Barabas to escape-his death is VIOLENT-he chose a VIOLENT Death-Your Bible has lead you to more wars as Christians than any other religious manuscript on this earth. You Christians have been allowed to worship in America-but now you believe you have the authority through your majority to place ALL Americans in the line of your FIRE-Separation of Church and State has got to stop your Monarchy!
