Why aren't muslim women allowed to vote or to drive in some Islamic countries?

OK prove to me women can vote in all muslim countries and are allowed to drive cars in all muslim countries.

There are Islamic countries (admittedly not Egypt) which do prohibit women driving cars and voting. This is a fact. I want to know why. You have not answered my question.

Women are not allowed to vote because a vote means having a voice and an influence over their male dominated society, if they let women drive, then they would probably drive right out of the country. So they brainwash them from a young age to believe that they dress from head to to toe and are like lumps of gold for Allah, while the men of course walk around in what they want.

This is not with religion connected, in some countries are the laws like this, cos they try to protect the women, its not an Islam rule, don't miss understand that, th prophet (Mohamed AL rasul) said that one of our rules are to learn always, and there are so many countries that most of the people think are Islamic countries where isn't allowed for women to go to school, this is the government rule and not religion, look the case of Somalia, women are still being circumcised all tough this is a very big mistake, they say Islam wanted so, this is a lie it has something with tradition, or customs from sick people, there are too many lies about Islam, you have to look for the true before you make a wrong mind

You need to understand, there are different secs. of the Muslim culture. In certain Islamic countries women do not have equal rights, they are the property of their husbands or their fathers until they are married. In certain parts of these countries girls are not allowed to have an education and children are taken to terrorist camps to be taught at an early age how to destroy the anti-christ. From what I understand Islam is being distorted by revolutionist that want to take over the world and that is not what being a Muslim is all about.

Are you asking for the reasons they give, or for a historical/sociological explanation? Can't tell which you're asking.

Others have mentioned the reasons for not allowing women to drive -- it's (so they say) for their protection. People who view women as a substandard type of human believe they aren't capable of voting, as so many people in the US believed (and some still believe). Remember, women in the US didn't get the vote until 1920.

If what you're asking is the "how did it come to be that these laws are in place" question (as opposed to the "what reasons do people give for these laws" question), I don't know, specifically. But it's much the same as the reasons why women are oppressed and have been oppressed in all of the culture that have done so throughout history. A little research on the histories of those countries would be in order.

Is there some particular reason for focusing on these few instances of a small subset of Islamic countries?

There are a lot of Christian Americans who believe women aren't fully human, and need to "serve and obey" the men in their lives. Reading about or talking to them would shed light on your question.

BTW, in the countries you refer to, there are also women's rights advocates who are working to change those laws.

hey i've voted all times since i got the oppurtunity and bet me i have 2005 chrysler crossfire roadster as a gift from my husband last year on our first marraige anniversary.

some muslim countries are very poor, so they dont drive cars. and yet there are countries in Gulf where women drive cars. and yet there are also many countries where women dont have to drive their car even id they know how to drive, wondering why? coz their chauffers do that for them.

right now there are some delegations and conferences held in Qatar, kuwait where they are planning to approve for women votes. but as far as i know there are many women even in non-muslim countries where women can vote yet they dont prefer to vote, so all those votes go waste.

1- i am Muslim girl in Islamic country ( Egypt) i do have the right to vote as a matter of fact i just got my election card to vote in next election as matter of fact i know men who don't care or think in their right to vote
they can but don't bother for many political reasons iam not going to bother u with it
about driving cars ,many and i mean many women drive care in many other Islamic countries as well
i know the ppl in west are totally misinformed about Islam and Muslims ,its not their fault ,its their media so it would be great if u can ask Muslims or even better visit Islamic countries if u like and u are so welcomed sir
another thing ,only in Saudi women don't have the right to vote but its not cuz of Islam ,its more related to traditions than anything else

ok : egypt, turki,indonisia, syria, sudan ,lebanon,jordon, bahrin,qatar, emarites, yemen ,libya, morraco,morotania and so many other islamic countries do allow voting and driving for women so you should name me a country ( be specific) for example if we are talking about saudia as i said its related to tradition ,men dont allow women to drive as they scare they might get harrassment in the streets and saudian women are so rich in a way they can get private driver for them ,they dont need to drive ( as i said trations not islamic teachings )
for voting issues in saudia and al keuit for example ,women live in luxuary ,they dont need to vote to make things happen or change ,they do have almost everything ( they are the queens of their own homes ) so why bother voting ,i am not saying its ok but as it doesnt bother them ( not able to vote) why it should bother us . ( i have arelatives live in saudia so i am telling u that out of experience)
on the other hand in islam women are so equal with men in such political issues for example women did participate in all the political events and some of them did change some decision for example when the prophet`s wife suggested a very wise decision without that decision some different actions could have been done .

and not to be alone with mens
