How can you believe in a literal, inerrant bible?

Since the bible was create by a democratic process of men voting on various writings...
And it was nearly universal that people think that democratic processes conducted by man are fallible...

Doesn't it logically imply that the bible must be fallible?

what if the book of "Corinthians" was included by mistake?
what if the Gospel According to Bubba, or the First Letter of Maggie to her Sorority, were really the word of god, but got voted out?

You have brought up an intersting point. The fact of the matter is people of the book(meaning christians) do not follow the old testament, only the new testament. the old testament is omewhat more geared towards thier fauth in jesus and not the lord GOD of Israel. To the acceptance for christians we will just call HIM the father. No holy spirit nor son. But the truth of thier trinity. With the faith of christians(because that is what the bible is more geared for) the fther is the true question at hand. Not jesus. How mercifull will HE be and admit one into heaven(if that is what you believe). So whether the bible was tampered with or not, you can not change the faith of a christian. Logic does not surpass thier faith.

I am personally islamic and your question refers to my religion too. But I am a hanif-muslim. What a hanif does is believe in the quran whole heartedly, but do not follow the hadith because one can not tell the authenticity of it. Because just like you said, how do you know what is really in there was not voted upon? How does one know that the hadith has not been tampered with? How does one know the authenticity of that book? One can attempt to change the quran, but it will easily correct itself for one who dares. And that is where my truth exists.

I for one believe in the old testament, but you can not even put the lives of any man on paper. The being of a man goes beyond mere literature. So if you describe all of ones good deeds and efforts to try and make something correct, it would still not capture the essense of that person. What I am trying to say is, what the TRUE GOD placed on a man to be his or her existance can not be placed on paper no matter how much is put down or left out. That is like me writing a book on your(you:devlsaduoct) entire existance. Neither me nor you can do it because it can not be written on paper. Your entire life on text. Something would be missing without a doubt. Maybe an entire aspect of your existance. In my religion there is only one book that holds information exact to the smallest detail. And that is the book that is with allah. Not the bible nor quran. And everything that exists is written in that book even before brought into existance. PEACE!

The gospels (I don't know about Bubba...LOL) that were not included in the Canonized Bible are still available for purchase and reading. I believe someone has just put them all together in a book too.

There isn't anything stopping you from reading them or following the teachings in them. The canonized Bible is just said to have the most pertinent information from all of the scrolls and texts.

Human beings are fallible - both men AND women - neither one knows everything. Anyone that tells seriously that they know everything clearly knows very little. I don't believe in a literal, inerrant bible as if you do the bible contradicts itself in numerous places. This distortion of how the bible was supposed to be used (as metaphor) started about 150 years ago when someone decided it had to be taken as it was written, and not "interpreted" which is strange because the bible had to be "interpreted" in order to be written in English! BTW: Has anyone proven the existence or non-existence of the Flying Spaghetti Monster yet? I say that its real, because I say so - LOL!!! ;) As far as which movies to rent, when in doubt, go with the classics - always a safe bet.

I don't agree with the way you are saying it but I do agree with what you are saying. I am a Christian who has read the Bible but I now only focus on the words of Jesus. I also read up on the lost scriptures which contain a lot of things that conflict with what the Bible says. I've formed my own opinions about who God is and who Jesus was instead of letting a church and a book tell me what is so. I am a member of an American Baptist Church but that is only for worship purposes... not so that I can be told that what I believe is wrong.

You need to learn the doctrines of Inspiration and Canonicity. You don't understand how we got our bible. If you are truly interested go to this site and order "Basics 101". Otherwise, stay in the dark.

You are correct, that if the books of the bible were selected by a democratic process then it would be void, for the majority is almost always wrong.

And if god was proofing it as it came off the presses how'd he let so many contradictions slip by? And why'd he make it read like an advanced algebra theory text book? I'd think he'd want to jazz it up a bit. You know, throw in some Chariot chase scenes, maybe some jokes.

There are many ways to look at this.

Women are to men as wives are to single women. Just because you categorize women, does not mean we all think the same.

I detect a little one sided chauvenism here. You probably thought 'Women are from Venus Men are from Mars' was wriiten by a man. Actually it distorted the whole process!

Thats a great question. Thats why I dont participate in any organized religion. I think spirituality is great, it can bring people together, but religion is bad. More people have died for their religion than anything else on Earth. Which is funny since Islam, Judaism and Christianity are the same things with different names. Religion is a man made thing. Being man made, it has faults, many of them, just like every other man made thing.

Anything that has the handiwork of human being attached has the possibility of being fallible. After all, since when are we humans perfect?
