1) The person who refuses to accept any evidence that their scripture may have flaws, even when the flaws are obvious?

or

2) The person who can accept the idea that there may be some flaws in their scripture, but who still believes in the overall message.

By "flaw" I mean
1) contradictions (e.g., Saul died in 4 different ways according to the bible, which is a neat trick http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/contra/saul.html)
2) errors (e.g., according to the bible, a bat is a bird)
3) intolerance/bigotry (eg., the bible commands women to stay silent in church)
4) injustice (e.g., the penalty for being a disobedient child is death, according ot the bible)

etc.

Personally, I think that the second person demonstrates more faith because they believe enough in the message that they can handle acknowledging such things and having to slip into rationalization or denial to cover them up.

What do you think?

"be"
2:117
The Originator of the heavens and the earth!
When He decreeth a thing, He saith unto it only: "Be!" And it is.
Does this aya not say that God creates instantaneous? Does this really leave room for billions of years of development?

Six days are still pretty quick and acceptable in the range of "Be! And it is" given the massive size of the universe and the complexity of life ..., but wouldn't it be quite a stretch to translate Sura 2:117 as "When He decreeth a thing, He saith unto it only: Be! And it finally came to pass after about 10 billion years."?

"six days"
7:54
Lo! your Lord is Allah Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days, ...

Fact:
The first Gospel listed in Christian Bibles, Matthew, was written anonymously. The title "Matthew" was added by the Church long after the Gospel was written.

My question is...why did they name it Matthew and not Bob?

With creating various types of music, most religions, many types of romantic relationships, etc., etc.? Do you really think Satan is that infinitely creative, and your Creator's mind is that narrow? This is something that's always gotten to me, even as a Christian.

I said this in response to someone else's question, and figured it deserved its own question.

Every issue in your life and the world. A line right down the middle. Try with religion, take every world religion draw a line right down the middle with "bad" on the left "good" on the right. I am catholic so say I drew a line and

pedophile priests, abusive teachers, etc./spirit, community, etc.

or for example me

fear, past pain, judging, jealous, unbelieving/believing, strong, kind

What if you took everything from the right column from every situation and religion and focused on that and let the left column fade away from your life, wouldn't that eventually help your life and over time the world.

What if every religion is a piece to a bigger puzzle, you take the top of everything and blend it with the tops of everyone elses "everything" wouldn't the left column over time disappear for everyone?

How do I change it, or do I just issue the apology here?

Then fashioned We the drop a clot, then fashioned We the clot a little lump, then fashioned We the little lump bones, then clothed the bones with flesh, and then produced it as another creation. So blessed be Allah, the Best of creators!
-- Sura 23:14
Will ye cry unto Baal and forsake the Best of creators, ... ?
-- Sura 37:125

if Allah is the best of the creators...who else can create...does this mean there are other Gods other than Allah?

Allah is Creator of all things, and He is Guardian over all things.
-- Sura 39:62
Such is Allah, your Lord, the Creator of all things, There is no God save Him. How then are ye perverted?
-- Sura 40:62

Such is Allah, your Lord. There is no God save Him, the Creator of all things, so worship Him. And He taketh care of all things.
-- Sura 6:102

Say: Who is Lord of the heavens and the earth? Say: Allah. ... Say: Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Almighty.
-- Sura 13:16

There was a post removed recently about contradictions in the Bible. I was able to answer a few of those so called "contradictions". Most of them were really poorly put together from some skeptic website. I completed a few of these so called "contradictions". If you so desire, add more "contradictions" that you know are not true contradictions and we will vote for the best one.

Here are mine:

Should we kill?
Ex. 20:13 Thou shalt not commit murder.
Ex. 32:27 Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, put every man his sword by his side...and slay every man his brother...companion..neighbor.... also 1 Sam. 6:19; 15:2,3; Num. 15:36)
****answer: Man should not murder, this is true, murder is about killing the innocent. But WAR is not murder.

Ex 20:5 "...for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God..." (see also Ex 34:14, Deut 4:24, Josh 24:19, and Nah 1:2)
Gal 5:19-20 "Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are...jealousy..." (See also 2 Cor 12:20)
*****answer: Jealousy from a sinful man’s point of view is much different than that from God’s. Our jealousy tends to created unrighteous anger, while God is jealous when His creation bows down and worships false Gods. God cannot sin, so His jealousy does not lead Him to sin as it does with us.

Should we tell lies?
Ex. 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness.(Prov. 12:22; Rev. 21:8)
1 Kings 22:23 The Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the Lord hath spoken evil concerning thee. (II Thess. 2:11; Josh. 2:4-6 with James 2:25)
****answer: We must remember, that our lying is always a sin as we can do no other, but with all things of God, He makes all things good. So even if that means that he had some lie, it was a lie that would bring about His Glory. In 2 Thess, it says that those who reject God will be given the false information to continue to reject God if they do not stop rejecting Him. These are the lies which God allows people to hear and believe if they continue to be so stiff-necked in their rejection of Him. Many here are like that.

Should we steal?
Ex. 20:15 Thou shalt not steal. (Lev. 19:13)
Ex. 3:22. And ye shall spoil the Egyptians. (Ex. 12:35-36; Luke 19:29-33)
***answer: No WE should not steal, but as for what God would do for his people so that they may survive…he allowed them to steal for their survival. What loving Father would neglect the needs of His children if that could be prevented?

Shall we keep the Sabbath?
Ex. 20:8 Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. (Ex. 31:15; Num. 15:32,36)
Is. 1:13 The new moons and the Sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity. (John 5:16; Matt. 12:1-5)
****answer: Here is a great example of skeptics trying to hard. Ex 20 is speaking about keeping the Sabbath holy and yet Isaiah is talking about false worshippers that God does not want to see and then John and Matthew are talking about something totally different concerning Jesus.

Shall we make Graven images?
Ex. 20:4. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven...earth...water. (Lev. 26:1)
EX. 25:18 And thou shalt make two cherubims of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them.
****answer: This is talking about worship. The two cherubims were not created for worship.

my boyfriend & I had a fight yesterday where I threatened to leave him if he didn't pull his act together (he constantly procrastinates, he says one min he wants to marry me then the next moment he's changed his mind - huge fear of the future & of making decisions) We're christians, wanted to get married from day one (dating just under two yrs) and working towards a stable marriage rlnshp.Last night he said he needed time to think through what we discussed (last night & today) Am seeing him tonight - or was supposed to, i spoke to him earlier when I called him and he decided he didn't want to see me tonight. He was being really abrupt and cold and I don't understand why. His phone's now switched off. Should I just go to his house anyway? We'd arranged to have dinner and he just decided he didn't want to, we'd see each other tomorrow instead...what's going on!? I'm so confused.. :( :(

One day you decide to take up a long journey. You pick up your bag and head for a region known for its scenery, pristine lakes and dangerous passes. You are in the middle of your journey, in a beautiful valley guarded by twelve mountains. This is a magical place where strange forces are at work.

It is like an early dawn but everything is luminescent in mysterious ambient light. Then there is a sudden flash. You feel as if a curtain has lifted. In that brief moment you understand the secrets of time, space and the universe. You see that there is truth behind everything, and a common wisdom among all things.

Then the strangest thing happens – you are no longer one you but a hundred and one exact replications of you. Your feelings have been profound but there is peacefulness in you heart. You soon come to terms with new reality.

Then something moves … you realise that you have an arduous journey ahead. Will you be able to choose one person among yourselves to lead you forward?

Leviticus 25:44-46 "Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can will them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly."

What kind of a human value does the Bible give to slaves? If slaves and their children must be inherited and passed down to newer generations as slaves, then how in the world will they ever gain their freedom?? Does the Bible believe in Freedom? Does the Bible believe in liberating human beings from slavery? Apparently it does not !!!.
