I asked a question about people that I meet sometimes wanting to convert me to Christianity (I am an atheist) and I got lovely answers from everyone.
One answer in particular was very beautifully written and very nice but had an aspect that struck me as odd:

“Why are people attracted to you and then want to convert you? Maybe because either they can see what makes you beautiful but can't fathom that beauty in a person can exist without believing in god”

Taken out of context, yes but…hmmmm.

Most atheists I know are kind, loving, attractive and spiritual...yes spiritual.
And I will have you know that I cut off my tail and keep my horns trimmed and my cloven hooves are painted cotton candy pink!

So, (and I know this question has been asked a hundred different ways)

Do you feel that not believing in God precludes you from being beautiful?
How do you see atheists?
What can I do to change that image, besides well…convert?

When your relative is deathly ill and constrained to the bed, why does God let he or she continue to suffer and pain? Why doesn't He just end the life quickly and painlessly? If God knows when we're going to die, why does he decide to let someone die a certain painful way as opposed to another way? What if that someone is a Christian? Why still the painful way? Why can't we just die without suffering pain? Like peacefully in our sleep? Is it God's last punishment before we go to Heaven? Does he want us to suffer so we can inspire others? Can our faith in Him increase even as we are lying there sick, in pain, and dying?

Please be serious...

Barna Survey says no chanGe in the faith of Americans five years after 9/11 and one year after Katrina. Most Americans still believe GWB: "America is a nation under law", even though the Holy Bible thrice says "ye are not under the law, but under grace"; clarifying "if led of the Spirit". Not to mention "if any man have an ear, let him h-ear what the Spirit saith unto the churches" x 7; And what's spiritually said "unto the churches" is notably also Pauline written in Galatians, such as "the law is not of faith", and it's plainly "evident" from the evidence "that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God(Grace)".

By sorting data in different ways (or quotes in Bibles' cases) you can easily support any claim you like. There are so many vague quotations in any religious text that are open to interpretation, that it is logically difficult to state any claim based on any Bible definitively. Two Bible scholars may see a similar quote in different contexts and yet claim the Bible means the same thing across the board.

As an example, Catholics and Jewish people use the same book to say (albeit very similar) different things. My question, how do logical religious scholars rationalize this?

while i agree that there are fundamentalists in every religion, islam is the worst. its very hard to come across a moderate muslim who is not a fundamentalist.
I wonder what purpose fundamentalism is going to serve, and where its all going to end?

This isn't right, wait a minute my Bible is broken, it says that I can buy children - but children aren't property are they?

Something is wrong here. Why?

44 And as for your male and female slaves whom you may have—from the nations that are around you, from them you may buy male and female slaves. 45 Moreover you may buy the children of the strangers who dwell among you, and their families who are with you, which they beget in your land; and they shall become your property. 46 And you may take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them as a possession; they shall be your permanent slaves. But regarding your brethren, the children of Israel, you shall not rule over one another with rigor.

We've been married almost for three years. He just recently turned to Jesus. All his family is into witchcraft. Now he belives in Jesus adn prays for his mother to believe in him too. But very often demons attacks him and I can't do anything. I'm not keeping records of wrong and I forgive him for whatever he does. But I can't anymore. Yesterday all day he was accusing me in little things. Like why I put christian radio so loud, why i didn't turn onto that street, why i say the butter isn't salt when it is salt. And I told him - LET's talk. he answered:"I'm tired i want to sleep." I cried and told him that he didn't respect me. He said:"I don't believe to your tears!" ANd then minutes later he is kind and nice again... I can't live like that. Should I always forget the way he hurts me? or Should I punish him and not talk? (that's what i'm doing now). Please help me with the advice. I'm not going to the counsellor I'd go to the Lord.

That the phrase 'I am praying for you!' makes more people turn away than almost anything? Talk about condescending.

I Got purhaps a handful of insightful answers to my question but for every good answer there was a slew of those who are set against any idea of a all powerful creator. To those people i would like to say I appreciate your opinion but why? Is it so hard to believe in something you cannot see? Do you put all your good fortunes in the hands of luck because if you do then perhaps you should play the lotto. The next time you are ALMOST hit by a car or something bad ALMOST happens to you i hope you will stop and think that perhaps its not just blind luck but maybe someone is watching out for you in your time of need. Remember all the good things that happen to you but also remember that no one is that lucky. Open your eyes to the bigger truth. God is there and he is waiting for you.
