I bet everyone on here has memorized some song or line from a movie, it is the same with the bible, the words strike belivers very powerfully and this is added to by the fact that the book has been in circulation for so long and has literly shaped the entire world. In addition the bible is very easy to paraphrase, and most probably just wing it to an athiest since they probably havn't read the bible.

I have the e-Sword software available at no charge on the Free Stuff page @ http://web.express56.com/~bromar/ to locate and paste texts that pertain to questions here on Y/A. But of course I have to already know what's contained in the Bible to do that so even though I don't have the entire Bible memorized I do have an excellent familiarity with what is written in it. As a Biblical counselor and a teacher in the children's and prison ministries that's a pre-requisite.

I have a bible in front of me right now! Just as a reference...I'm not a Christian. I happen to be a Pagan but I have lots of books on all religions. Relgion is great and very interesting! How can you ask intelligent questions or answer question intelligently if you are uneducated and just following what others are saying?
People who put down other religions should study the messages behind most....peace and love!

Blessed Be!

I pull from various websites. I keep them short though, one or two verses. Usually when a line says something akin to, "no one was spared, young or old, man or woman, and the number that died that day was about 12,000" it's pretty straightforward.

(this isn't an actual quote, but a combination of two separate incidents in the Bible)

Some of both... some stuff I can remember, but some stuff I have to look up. Either is fine - it prooves they read there Bible, doesn't it? Also, they might not have to have the BIBLE itself, it could be the fact that there's many online Bible sights where you can read the Bible.

Everyone is different. Mostly I speak from memory and only use scripture occassionally. Usually I speak in laymans terms. There have been a few occasions that I had to refer to my bible just to be sure I was writing it precisely.

For my part, I can't always remember the exact location of each Passage, so I need to look them up.

That said, I know Brothers, and Sisters who can quote verbatim from The WORD without even thinking about it. I'm not talking about Preachers, I'm talking about Laity.
