The Blessed Vigin Mary was the mother of jesus Christ, our savior. If mary had not said "Yes" to God's request to be the mother of our savior, Jesus Christ would not have been born and Jesus would not have died for our sins and made our entry into Heaven possible.
To say that Mary was "only a vessel" is saying that Jesus was "only a man" and to insinuate that Mary abandoned Jesus shortly after His birth and had no part in the loving person that Jesus grew up to be. Who do you think Jesus used as a role model to become the loving, generous, forgiving person He bacame? His mother, Mary.

Jesus came into this world only with Mary's consent and only through Mary. Because God has willed it to be such, the only way that anyone can be saved is through Jesus and the only way Jesus would come to save us is through Mary. If we are to be re-born, we must re-enter the womb of our Mother.
Since salvation is only possible for us because of Mary, she is the gate of Heaven; we only enter heaven through her.
Also, note that it is the Bible who says she is "blessed amount women" It says this when Mary comes to help Elizebeth at the begining of Luke.

You'd have to find a practicing Catholic, because other than calling her "Blessed among women" a lot of things they do are not back up by bible verses. She and Joseph had other children after Jesus was born, so she didn't remain a life long virgin.
When they tried to make Mary an object of worship, what did Jesus say to them?
Luke 11:27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed [is] the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.
Luke 11:28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed [are] they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

She is called many titles. Some man given, some she has given herself during appearances.
At Lourdes for example, she called herself the "Immaculate Conception". One way we honor the Holy Mother is by her titles.
Hail Mary, Full of Grace, the Lord is with thee.

I don't know why she is so revered. She was only a vessel for the Christ child to be born. Even throughout the life of Christ, he only called her Woman.

Because she gave birth to Jesus, and the way to heaven is through him.
