At the time it was written, this was for the benefit of the woman, in a somewhat misguided way. Since men viewed women as property, she was literally "damaged goods" and would risk being shunned and ultimately face starvation and death as she would have been pretty much ignored by society.

Try investigating the view that humans started out as far more vicious and savage on a spiritual level, and that faith has been evolving as we become less separated from God. There really is a big change from the people who need to marry their rape victims in the Old Testament to the New Testament's Golden Rule etc. Perhaps God's approach to us changes as we change... it would make sense, as a static, heavy handed Higher Power wouldn't be very impressive or loving.

We do not know of any love or compassion that could exist between the aggressor and his victim, especially since the pain of rape cannot be erased with the passage of time.

This is an abhorrent crime that is forbidden in all religions and Islam in praticular, and in the minds of all wise people and those who are possessed of sound human nature.

All earthly systems and laws regard this action as abhorrent and impose the strictest penalties on it, except a few states which waive the punishment if the rapist marries his victim!

This is indicative of a distorted mind let alone a lack of religious commitment on the part of those who challenge God in making laws.

Hence many victims of rape have attempted to commit suicide and many of them have succeeded, The failure of these marriages is proven and they are accompanied by nothing but humiliation and suffering for the woman.

Islam has a clear stance which states that this repugnant action is unlawful and imposes a deterrent punishment on the one who commits it.

The punishment for rape in Islam is stoning if the perpetrator is married, or one hundred lashes and banishment for one year if he is not married. While there is no punishment for the woman who has been raped.

As usual someone searches all the Bibles to find the one that isn't properly translated and uses it.

Here's the most trusted version of the Bibles version of that scripture.

Deuteronomy 22:28-29 (KJV):
"If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days."

It's talking about fornication, not rape.

OK , I have no interest in the Bible And I'll take your quote on face value .

Well the punishment is not relevant to the Crime , Thankfully no-one uses that pathetic excuse to try and weasel out of Rape convictions these days.

My question to ALL is what would happen If the young woman was engaged or married ?

The Punishment changes ???????

Have you studied the culture from that time period? Women didn't have much power and even fewer opportunities to provide for themselves. If a girl was raped, she would have been considered damaged goods, not as fit to marry as virginal girls. She most likely would have been shunned.

Having to marry anyone back then was a huge committment, not like today where you can get a divorce because someone sneezed incorrectly. It would have been a fitting deterant to rape back then. If the dude didn't have the 50 pieces of silver, he'd most likely become a slave to pay off the debt.

Doesn't sound very sick to me. It sounds like a logical solution for that society. Hopefully you realize our society has changed, and we don't follow that law anymore. It is 3,000 years later. Luckily we've "matured" a bit.

Ridiculous

But it happened. I was told by my friend,a rape case was brought to his father, as his father is the head of a small village, and also acts like a judge about 40 yrs ago.

His father ordered both sides to settle, and asked the attacker to marry the victim. Then there was a HAPPY ending. NO enemies but relatives.

Obviously if the man is in poor enough character to rape a girl, he is not going to make a good husband. He would inevitably cheat on her and give her grounds for a divorce. Actually now that you mention it, I could think of no greater punihsment than forcing him to get married to a woman that despises him!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA (man they need to bring that law back)

In all seriousness, that law indeed does seem offensive. Its a good thing that we drop the hammer on sexual offenders! Boy we put them on lists, (If they do serve some of their light sentences) theyre given 3 meals a day, medical, dental, cable TV, free legal council. Or we simply give them probation and let them go hunt their next set of victims. Yes sir! Im glad thousands of years of "social evolution" have really fixed the problem!

In those days a female (not necessarily old enough to be considered a woman) who had been raped was better off marrying her rapist than to be ostracized by both her family and society. It's not the marriage part of this I object to; it's the fact that rape was not only permitted but sometimes *encouraged* by so-called "God" in the OT.

that's an fairly complicated study. And a short version can not positioned across what changed into meant by using it. notwithstanding the completed purpose of the old covenant changed into to reveal how far removed from excellent (Him) we were. God gave then a algorithm that ought to ideal make a society paintings. when you recognize a rape sufferer you'll more beneficial valuable comprehend the mess they are in (for something else of their existence). And the punishment the husband of a rape sufferer is going by is amazingly troublesome (his decision) So in Gods large knowledge He bumped off an possibility free man or woman (the guy she ought to have married later) from the punishment residing with the mess the rapist left in the back of. Now the lady has someone to provide for her, (keep in concepts those were old situations, before females's rights, welfare and different social classes) And the piece of egocentric sh-it that raped her has a were given a existence sentence of providing (i.e. procuring) his mess. the proper outcome is a more beneficial strong society, that's good for each body. And the out of control emotion (i.e. lust) or the vulnerability of the lady that changed into an attraction to rapist to start with in time (mostlikey) will come to love her, repent of his moves before God, and be a more beneficial valuable citizen of a society God is making an attempt to variety for them to stay in peacefully. He loves us and needs us to have the ideal. So by using forcing this, that's the ideal for each body. God is in simple terms making the finest of a foul difficulty.

You just don't get it do you? Everything in the old testament is leading and pointing to the new and better way. God let man try and work out his own salvation by obeying laws and being good. None of it worked, they ran circles around themselves, sin after sin. Got to find a way to fix the wrongs you did, how to make up for what a false prophet that you thought was a real one told you to do, so you raped the girl down by the river, and on and on. THEN God says, Ok I'm fixing this once and for all one final solution, one answer for all time and if you'll believe on him I'll put my law of love in you heart and scrawl it there forever. And you will finally be able to do right, if you trust in Him and follow his example. Come on, it's so simple " I am the way the truth and the life and no man can come to Father but by me"
